As the title says! So please help!

My phone is currently saying 'slide to upgrade' but it won't let me slide. So I am currently without a phone...eek! Sods law my battery was at pretty much 100% so need it to run down too!

I was syncing my phone via my laptop and it suggested upgrading, so I thought why not! How I wish I hadn't bothered now.

Any suggestions will be gratefully recieved as I am buggered at the moment. Please keep it at 'dumbo' level of explaination if you can!

Thanks in advance

Go to the Apple support website, there is an article there that covers your issue.

Is it an idiots guide?! I will do, thank you.

Edit: I've just looked and can't find the article! Any chance of a link? Sorry to be a pain.

Have you tried forcing a reboot by holding the power and the home button?

This exact thing happened to my work colleague's phone. Because it was provided by the company, it's not allowed to be synced to iTunes so there was no way for him to fix it.

When he called our company helpdesk, they said they had had a few reports of this. They are sending him out a new one.

Does plugging it into the mains charger do anything? Might make it respond? Failing that and holding down power/home there's not much you can do apart from let the battery run down.

Is the screen on all the time or does it still go off on its own as usual? If it stays on then the power will run out quickly anyway, if it goes off then you'd have to wait a few days I guess unless you wrap some selotape around the power button to keep the screen on

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've tried everything now and still no good. It says the restore is complete and then freezes again. I'm going to have to go to the Apple store tomorrow after work. Thoroughly fed up.

Thanks again fellow DSers!

“When the Slide to Upgrade screen doesn't respond, find out what to do.

Use these steps:
Connect your iOS device to a computer that you've previously synced with iTunes. Then make sure iTunes is open.
Select your device. If you don't see it listed, force restart your device by pressing and holding both the Sleep/Wake and Home button for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
If you made an iTunes backup of your device before updating to iOS 9, restore your device from that backup. If not, you need to make a backup of your device in iTunes, then restore from that backup.
If you still see the Slide to Upgrade screen after completing the steps above:
Restore your device. If you don't see your device in iTunes, or your computer won't trust your device, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home button for at least 10 seconds, until your device restarts and appears in iTunes. When prompted, choose Restore.
After the restore is complete, set up your device as new.
This will be resolved soon in an upcoming iOS update.”

What fun I've had today. Went into my local Apple store at about 4.30pm today. It was full of people with the same problem as me. They'd seen over 300 people with the problem today and said that Apple currently have no idea what to do. The guy said only 1 in 100 people have successfully got IOS 9. He also said there is only a 50/50 chance that they'll be able to sort the problem. I've got to go back in on Thursday when they will hopefully have some idea of what to do.

I spent hours last night following all the guides to sorting it but to no avail. It's a pretty poor show from Apple IMO.

My advice to others...DO NOT INSTALL IOS 9 until all the glitches have been sorted.

Er, two iPhone 4S units (one 8gb, one 16gb), three iPhone 6, one iPhone 5s, one iPhone 5c all updated to iOS 9 without problem. All were running 8.4.1 before. According to MacRumors tonight 50% of all capable iPhones are now running iOS 9, one of the quickest updates ever.

Maybe yours wasn't on iOS 8.4 or 8.4.1 or there is some conflict app, or you've jailbroken in the past? Or maybe its hardware failure.

I've always been totally up to date with IOS updates. MacRumors are probably just that, rumours! I can only speak as I find and I have never seen an Apple store so manic. Why would the staff lie about the problems?
Over 300 people in the store in one day with the same problem so hardware failure is very unlikely.

300 people with this exact same problem in ONE store today? I don't think so some how! That would mean there's thousands/millions of people complaining of this problem, yet this ONE thread is the first I've heard of it

As I said, why would they lie?
Anyway, thanks to those who have done their best to help me.

I don't know I just find it hard to believe that's all. Maybe they were embarrassed to admit they really don't know what's wrong with it and didn't know what to do! I'd like to think that wasn't the case but you never know.
