Guns N' Roses. Estimate 100 million album sales since the 1980's and counting.

Their Queen tribute concert after the death of Freddie Mercury RIP showed how much better they are than Queen.

My newest favorite, the late beautiful precious Billy Joe Royal that is, first started getting played on the radio in 1965 and continued to tour until his going forward last fall.

God bless you and his family always!!!

Holly

P.S. If only I had found him on my own before his departure. Now I can't tell him that I love him.

I was at the tribute concert and they were superb. That is why I've no interest in seeing any "reunion" tour because for me they won't be anywhere near as good.

It could be argues that most successful Rock bands have careers that last for longer than a decade because it usually takes that long to becomes established and successful.

What would be a more interesting argument is how many of today's artists will have careers that last a decade or more.

Just read on hits daily double, that last year, for the first time ever, back catalogue music sold more in total than Current music.

I think the OP intended artiste with an "e" to be female!

Add Emmylou Harris to the list.

First female to have a number one album in 80s, 90's,00's and 10's
has had top 3 hits in all those decades, not bad for someone who was meant to be a flash in the pan!”

The same was said about Madonna - 34 years ago.

People like to pretend that Kylie is a popular global superstar but the truth is she's only ever really been popular in a handful of countries. Total sales from her records equate to 70 million - which is great, but not that great when you consider she's been around since 1987 and women like Gaga (in this day and age) have sold almost 30 million in 8 years.

Madonna on the other hand is a successful global superstar who's sold around 350 million records and is a real money raker whenever she goes on tour. The gross revenue for the MDNA tour was $305,158,36, whereas the gross revenue for Kylie's last tour was $10,396,146.

Kylie is also not the first female artist to have number 1 albums spanning across 4 decades either. Barbra Streisand accomplished this in 1993.

It's also worth noting that the only #1 album Kylie had in the 90's was the S.A.W greatest hits album - it wasn't a new studio album, so therefore shouldn't really qualify.
Kylie reached #1 with that album in 1992. She didn't reach number 1 again in the UK until "Fever" - almost a decade later. Her previous album "Light Years", was blocked from the #1 spot by Madonna's "Music" album.

Madonna might not be the first to have number 1 albums spanning across 4 decades but she is listed in the Guiness Book Of Records as the the best-selling female artist in history, and the world's richest recording artist net worth of 800 million. She also has the biggest recording contract for a women when signed with Live Nation Entertainment by just three albums for £120 million.

Looking forward to hearing how much her recent tour has made when it's all done and dusted.

Artist's releases were where they displayed what they 'were about'. the charts are (at best) an attempt to log the top selling releases.

Sorry....
Why are you turning this into a Madonna V Kylie argument again. I never mentioned anything about Madonna but if you want, Aphrodite has sold more here in UK, than MDNA and Kylie Christmas which only had 6 weeks of sales before Christmas has out sold Rebel Heart, which was out for 9 months, here in the UK.
Kylie in this decade 2010 onwards, has managed 2 top ten singles (All the Lover and Higher) also 2 top twenty singles, Get Outta My Way and Into the Blue... Has Madonna?
We can safely say then, that here in the UK Kylie has sold a bit more than Madonna this decade.
But your right, Kylie never broke America so her sales over the years make it even more remarkable, imaging her sales if she had...
Both have had their time for hit singles but out of the both I think Kylie has more chance.
Now lets leave it there....

Excuse me?
If you look back at my post history you will see this is the first time I’ve ever really spoken about Kylie, so you’ve obviously have got me mixed up with someone else.

You made an unnecessary dig at Madonna by saying "Kylie is the first female to have a number one album in 80s, 90's, 00’s and 10's". I've seen this from multiple users who use this as a tool to bash Madonna with. The question asked by the OP was whose careers have spanned more than one decade? - Not who was the first female to have #1 albums spanning 4 decades.

People make the mistake of thinking that because “Can’t Get You out Of My Head” and “Especially for You” sold over 1 million copies in the UK - (two songs that Kylie didn’t write or co-write), it somehow makes her a bigger star than Madonna. It doesn't.

Especially for you was a duet and yet it is treated as if Kylie managed to sell a million copies all by herself. That song (like her first two albums) was released at a time when the UK was going crazy for Jason and Kylie. Neighbours was huge between 86-88. Jason even managed to score two UK platinum selling albums out of it. After popularity started to wane, Kylie’s Rhythm Of Love sold a mere 100,000 (1,000,000 less than her previous album). “Let’s Get To It” sales aren’t even worth mentioning. The less said about “Impossible Princess” the better.

With the exception of her best selling singles: "CGYOOMH" and "EFY", It appears Kylie has trouble matching a majority of Madonna's figures...
I Should Be So Lucky (#1) - 500,000, Hand on Your Heart (#1) – 400,000, Spinning around (#1) - 300,000, Got To Be Certain (#2) - 250,000, Tears on My Pillow (#1) – 200,000, Better The Devil You Know (#2)- 200,000, Confide In Me (#2)- 200,000, In Your Eyes (#3)- 200,000, Slow (#1) – 70,000,

I don't think Madonna has done too badly to be honest...
Into The Groove (#1) - 870,000, Like A Virgin (#3) - 780,000, Crazy For You (#2) - 670,000, Papa Don’t Preach (#1) - 645,000, Hung Up (#1) - 610,000, Like A Prayer (#1) - 580,000, Frozen (#1) - 545,000, True Blue (#1) - 545,000, Beautiful Stranger (#2) - 530,000, Vogue (#1) - 515,000, 4 Minutes (#1) - 500,000, La Isla Bonita (#1) - 435,000, Music (#1) - 415,000, American Pie (#1) - 390,000, Who’s That Girl (#1) - 380,000

I’ve just been reading her page on “The Official Charts” and it also appears that Kylie didn’t have much longevity on the charts like Madonna did either.

You mention the song "Higher". I'm sorry, but isn't that a Taio Cruz song? The same one Kylie was used as a guest vocalist but was then replaced by Travvie MCcoy for America so it wouldn't flop?

Into The Blue should have given her a much higher chart position considering the amount of exposure she was getting on "The Voice". 60,000 for Kiss Me Once - she really shouldn't have bothered.

No one is disputing the fact that Aphrodite sold more than MDNA and Rebel Heart did over here, but let’s not forget that both of those albums sold more than Kiss Me Once did. The success of Aphrodite is no doubt magnified by the fact that she worked with Stuart Price after the magnificent production he did on Madonna’s Confessions album. Hung Up (a song which almost tripled the worldwide figures of CGYOOMH”) has sold a staggering 9,000,000 worldwide.. It’s really no surprise that Kylie hired Stuart to try and replicate Madonna’s success. Madonna was still having massive hits when she released “Confessions” at 47 – Kylie was 46 when she released her last pop album, so why is her pop career now in the toilet? You'll argue that her Christmas album sold more than MDNA and Rebel Heart, but I doubt anyone is surprised by how popular festive music by a mainstream artist performs at Christmas. Michael Bublé has shifted 2,216,000 in the UK since 2011. Kylie’s sold 100,000 so far, so maybe she'll sell another few thousand next Christmas.

There's really no point in wondering what might have been if Kylie had cracked America. She tried multiple times and (like many other countries) they just weren't interested, even Australia is washing their hands. I guess Kylie will have to settle for the UK.

I don't understand why Madonna's chart single failure since 2010 makes certain people feel better about Kylie. Maybe I should compile a list of how many album's both have sold (over here and around the world).

I enjoy Kylie's music for what it is but not on the same level as Madonna.

Madonna has been dominating the charts all over the world since 1983, we know she's not going to be doing it forever - Women nearing the age of 50 (and over) seldom do - as Kylie is quickly finding out.
