CBB is educational
You can learn more about human nature (in all its complexity) and experience (in all its ambiguity) in one series of CBB than you could learn in a thousand years of watching any soap you care to mention. I also learn a lot from other people in this forum, who spot things I have missed, change my view (and how many times does that happen in life!), or just make me laugh.

Couldn't agree more Wildpark. Even though the original format of BB is poles apart from today, people watching is still its fundamental allure for me. A few would disagree I'm sure, but the America versus UK theme, and the consequent differences (by the thousand) between our two Nations has made for the most fascinating viewing and one of the best ideas they've had imo. Mind you, my head's knackered from all my amateur analysis!

It's definitely educational in how NOT to treat other people.

It certainly used to be. I think less so nowadays because what we get to see is so crafted and edited it has become very difficult to observe and evaluate the natural human behaviours that brought me to the show in the first place.
I used to liken the programme to a human zoo in which the contestants, who I always regarded as lab rats, would give interesting insights into human behaviour. I was never a viewer that got behind a contestant. I have grown to like some and dislike others but never much felt the need to have someone to support. Then observing how the viewer, as represented by DS poster respond, added a new dimension. I use to like to see how people approached the core paradox, which I see as one of what makes you likable in the house, thus avoiding nomination tends to be at odds with what viewers want from a housemate. Plus of course the way these specimens respond to the various pressures that the house and the show exposes them to. Now there really isn't enough information to evaluate anything much. Nowadays I find Monkey World a much better window into behaviour and group dynamics than BB. |

it has a good underlying basis of relationships but most wont see that... so not educational... it is perhaps reference material for those who can see what is actually happening.
