To back up my suggestion, a few years back Richard Skinner did mid mornings on XFM so why is the idea of Tarrant doing a Radio X show so absurd, don't forget he did Capital Breakfast in the 00s, so is moving onto Radio X daytimes in the 10s really that absurd an idea?
Radio 1 is ageist but Radio X isn't before people start being ageist and acuse Tarrant of being too old. Over 60s can still be good radio presenters you know.”

I agree that Dan O'Connel does stick out on their otherwise 'personality-driven' schedule.
But, Global are picking presenters that will appeal to the stated target audience of each of their respective stations.
Classic FM listeners would be likely to turn off if their breakfast show was suddenly presented by Tim Westwood. Capital Xtra listeners would likely desert the station if James O'Brien suddenly rocked up....
In the examples above the names would have too little in common with the target audience of the station.
By the same token Tarrant would likely fit in on Smooth or Gold, but not Radio X.
