Chris asks Vernon what's your 1st record ( upbeat response Chemical Brothers) appears he's allowed to start his show with an indie dance tune, and then asks what his 2nd song is (Downbeat response, don't know probably Mumfords, Libertines or Florence) he starts his show and the 2nd song is Florence!
Not sure Vernon is that into the music, doing 1 day a week at Radio 1 or the occasional bit of cover he didn't notice the repetition, but seems to be getting to him now he's permanently 5 days a week at Radio X. Not sure if his long term future is with the station where he doesn't appear to be a huge fan of the music policy. Unlike Moyles and Vaughn who's show are more speech based Vernon's is a music show so not sure what value he brings, why not just stick Camfield or Jo Good in that slot and I assume they would be cheaper too? |

Problay should put him on a more speech based drivetime slot.
Vernon now playing a 2nd Florence track on his show today, he'll love that! Moyles also played one after 8, so that's 3 Florence tracks in 4.5 hours, I don't mind her and it was 3 different songs but a bit more variety would be nice. Now playing Foo Fighters again when Moyles played them earlier. I like the music genre but the repetition is a bit much, guess I'm used to the wider range on the BBC. But high music repetition and commercials do not help. Absolute don't seem to need to repeat stuff as much though, what's wrong with a broader based rock/guitar station why does it have to be alternative/indie only, are they scared of losing the old XFM audience? |

Any changes to the music policy (if this ever happens) will take time. If they have a broader based rock/guitar station then that will be the same as absolute won't it ? FYI Vernons tracks yesterday: Go - Moby Ditmas - Mumford & Sons Oh My Love - The Score Stop Crying Your Heart Out - Oasis Fever - The Black Keys Starlight - Muse Throne - Bring Me The Horizon Born Slippy - Underworld Watch Left Hand Free - Alt-J Love Is The Law - The Seahorses Wake Up Call - Nothing But Thieves Drain You - Nirvana I Wanna Get Lost With You - Stereophonics S.O.B. - Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats What Kind Of Man - Florence & The Machine Black Chandelier - Biffy Clyro Regret - Everything Everything Scars - James Bay Gimme Shelter - The Rolling Stones By The Way - Red Hot Chili Peppers Just - Radiohead Sit Down - James Heart Of The Matter - The Libertines Snap Out Of It - Arctic Monkeys Bitter Sweet Symphony - The Verve Not Nineteen Forever - Courteeners Wasted Time - Kings Of Leon Do You Remember The First Time? - Pulp Lock All The Doors - Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds Elysium - Bear's Den Riptide - Vance Joy Watch Busy Earnin - Jungle Give Me A Sign - The Vaccines I think that's a pretty good selection. If I want pop or dance or classic rock there are other stations to choose from (1,Capital,Kiss,Absolute). There is always CDNX 1 and 2 if I want to go deeper into indie/alternative and John Kennedys excellent late night show is on demand as well. |

But that's Johnny Vaughn's slot, who is much stronger than Vernon at speech based radio.

The playlist is pretty much the same as XFM was.

I'm a big fan of Moyles but listened to the show today and the first 45 minutes was pretty dull, the discussion mainly was some Charity president who I have no interest in whatsoever.
I also think the links after the news with the voiceover telling Dom to say things or make animal noises etc is getting rather silly and I just don't find it funny it's repeated far to often. Obviously the budget Moyles had at the BBC for good quality jingles, a good quantity of voiceovers, celebs and sound effects really made the difference but clearly with Radio X Moyles has had to cut back drastically and to me this is spoiling the show. I also get the feeling from Moyles he's not enjoying the music and seems to make negative remarks or comments when he's about to play a track. Has Moyles only got one sung jingle and one music bed to speak over? I don't listen to Radio X for the music as I'm not a massive fan of rock or indie music, I listen for Moyles. I also think that on DAB there are far to many Rock stations and not enough stations aimed at 100% Dance/Trance if fact there are non. |

I think it's sounding great, but still trying to find it's ground. Needs a couple of regular features, particularly the 9am hour. I also wonder if it's getting a bit too anorak-y at times. I loved the Pat Sharp and CT bits over the last couple of days, but I wonder what 'normal' listeners think, particularly the out of London ones.
Yes the budget is far less, but all the music, sound effects and funny bits of audio will build up over time. If you listen to the early R1 shows they sound similar, plus there are now only 4 people on the show compared with 9/10 on Radio 1. All that said it's still far and away the most entertaining thing on the radio. PS: Jon Holmes for drive ! |

I like it; there are clearly things that will come and go with time on the show but it's miles better than anything else on at the same time.
During the day I can't say the lineup (or music) appeals; I can see the ratings during the day being a bit lacklustre; it's Moyles who's the draw. |

Maybe I'm being harsh on Dan, maybe it's a clever dig at Radio X being a mono station by dropping the Stereo from their name. Is he that clever or just trying to be cool calling them Phonics? If the latter can someone explain why that sounds cool?
As said above, I'd love Jon Holmes to get drive time, I listened to him Saturday morning and he's still as sharp as ever. I like Moyles on breakfast and it's a nice nostalgia trip (bring back Carpark Catchphrase ) and I'm sure it's better ratings for Global, but I miss Holmes. He really was great.

Really enjoy listening to Moyles. He seems really genuine when he's on air, unlike other presenters on other stations who seem to be so obviously reading off a script.
Christian O'Connell, please take note. |

Loved listening to Moyles on Drive & Breakfast on R1 & he was the only reason after Jo Wiley left that the radio was still tuned to the station by default.
Switched to XFM when Moyles left and really enjoyed Dan Wallace only to find him leaving shortly after & being replaced by Jon Holmes. Slowly grew to really enjoy his show but was just about happy to hear Moyles was going to come and take over. Now, 2 weeks in to the new Chris Moyles Show, I have to say that I'm really missing Jon in the morning. I'm already, even as a fan of Chris, starting to find that the show is very very repetitive. Running in to other stations studios, funny on the first day & maybe the second, after that just dull. Spinning a wheel to call "celebs", otherwise known as people that Chris knows like Cheggwin, Rice, Gaffney, Sharp etc is not only uninteresting to the vast majority of old XFM listeners but also, in my opinion, a direct up-yours to them too. This is Chris, almost trying to remove the listeners of the old station to gain traction with new ones. This might be exactly what the bosses want (like R1 bringing in Grimshaw to cull the older listeners). The same gags with Dom telling him to do an impression of Richard Parr, funny once or twice and then maybe randomly over the years but not every 2nd time the news is on. Maybe change the person he has to impersonate at least or just drop it. Currently, the lack of music being played is an issue for me, simply because the show seems to be devoid of actual features. There is no flow to the week yet, there are no slots that you can look forward to other than the Platinum hour on a Friday. I know that they have been speaking to Rob DJ about the pub quiz and despite this being an old segment from R1, I would be more than happy for it to come back as it would provide some structure to the show & something to look forward to. I listened to the Jon Holmes show today and last Saturday & it just reinforced what is now missing from the breakfast slot now. On paper, both presenters like a laugh, both enjoy talking nonsense, both are good at listener interaction with competitions but, & I'm surprised I saying this, Jon is so much less self obsessed that it opens the show out to the audience whereas Chris focusses the show on the jokes, situations & banter between the staff members and closes the audience off a bit more. This maybe the master stroke long term & may be what dragged me in years ago because listening was just like being the quiet guy in a bunch of friends at the pub, you didn't have to chip in to get all the in-jokes or participate in the banter directly. Unfortunately, I think something is missing from this iteration of the Chris Moyles Show, I don't feel anywhere near as comfortable listening to the show as I did before, things feel forced, like the numerous button pressing "errors" that Chris keeps making. Everyone knows how good Chris is at operation the desk and the sound effects yet there seems to be numerous "errors" every show. I fear that sadly the "something missing" is the influence of Dave Vitty. I know he will never get involved with the show, that friendship is dead & burried, but his influence on the show, the features he created (however bad yet funny to hear) & his possibly controlling and alternative narrative to just hearing Chris is maybe being missed more than I thought it would. Really hope that over the next few weeks it will start to feel more welcoming and natural plus have some running features that can add structure to the week. If it doesn't I know I'll lose interest and just switch back to the usb stick in the car or another DAB station for the wake up & drive to work part of the day. |

I notice that Moyles spends a lot of his time associating with other radio industry people, pretty much all of his friends seem to be other jocks or producers. I wonder if he spent so much time "talking shop" during his 3 years off that its second nature now. Of course, industry folk/anoraks are loving all the inside-radio talk, but it must be confusing to normal listeners. |

Something is missing from the Moyles Show now, I think the planning of the show sounds pretty rushed and it seems Moyles and the team quite literally leave the station at around 11am and do their own personal things.
I would have thought spending the rest of the day listening back to the show and arranging team discussions to discuss/improve links/features/discussions etc would be the top priority for the next month or two. Even selecting a few hundred listeners and having a private little event to listen to views about what's working and was isn't. The show seems cold, quiet, silly, repetitive and on a very restricted budget. I do hope Chris can bring what he had at the BBC to Radio X but with new ideas. |

Christian O'Connell, please take note. Never listened to him on Radio 1 as, at 38 when he first started on the Breakfast Show I was far too old to listen to Radio 1. Loving him on Radio X. The Keith Chegwin voice mail yesterday had me laughing all the way to work. |
