Enjoyed the pub quiz today. Was Rob DJ live because they haven't started doing recordings for him yet, or because they can't do the recordings in the same way on Radio X, so he *needs* to be live?

I enjoyed it regardless! Awful traffic today, nice to have a laugh on the way into work.

Was live in the studio, sounded more energetic. Sounds like a good guy glad back on the show, a decent regular feature.

Recording his future links are the show. He doesn't normally read the questions does he.

Historically, I don't think he did but with the ease of high quality home recording he could do it every week without being in London quite easily. What Chris was always good at was taking all the clips of him talking and using them to create a fun atmosphere where you almost forget he's not.

On Radio 1 the 4 presenters took part with a producer reading the questions, but on Radio X they only have 2 presenters so need the 2 producers to take part to have 4, so they probably need Rob to read the questions unless they can find someone else in the building, Vernon?

Interesting that Vernon effectively co-presents the show for the last 45 minutes, kind of like the new Dave. Can't see beyond Vernon as the main stand in for Chris but if their 1st 2 weeks off is over Xmas they will probably just have a generic cover presenter (Rich Walters?) as the audience will be low for that period so stand in less critical and doubt Vernon would work over Xmas anyway.

I am thinking Stephaie Hirst will be his stand in. She has been having meetings in London recently and Chris said the deal for his cover is nearly sorted in an interview somewhere I read.

Unusual to have cover from someone without a permanent slot on the station, I think they usually prefer a voice that is familiar to listeners from elsewhere on the schedule.

Unless she is getting a permanent show once one of the old XFM hosts contract expires, Would help increase the number of females on the schedule which they've been getting some stick about.

Having one dumb (I use today's pub quiz as justification for that statement) blonde on the breakfast show doesn't really help with them not trying to sound too male.

Charmless Man and Charming Man both played on the show today.

Chris had a dig at the repetitive playlist again after Charmless Man saying you don't hear it enough unless you listen to Radio X all day. Love that he can have a dig at the station he's on. Do any Heart/Capital DJs comment on the fact they play some songs a lot?
Not unless they wish there current show to be their last. I think Moyles is ak rule unto himself. Just how far he can push it is debatable?

Not just Moyles though is it, Vernon is also complaining about the repetition in the playlist and wants to play more 'repetitive beats' also mentioned they'd been allowed to get away with things in the first 2 weeks and now things are being reigned in.

I don't get Vernon's show it doesn't have the personality led content of Moyles, Vaughn, Holmes, Wilson so you wonder why they paid big bucks for him if its a music driven show why not just put Camfield or Good in that slot who are no doubt much cheaper than Kay. Or was this another Moyles request and is Vernon really there just to co present the last bit of Moyles show?

If so why not just make Vernon a permanent co-presenter with Moyles who can then cover holiday and just let 10-1 be a music driven show which the station obviously want. Although Vernon likes to think he's a big star so not sure he'd be up for being Moyles sidekick but would be a better use of his talent.

I think the simple answer is 'a name'.

The relaunch needed recognisable names to a NEW audience, not to ones who know who Camfield or Good are.

I sure as hell have never heard of them.

Got it so once the listeners are on board, Vaughn and Moyles are needed to keep them there but Kay can be axed as he's not going to keep listeners once his job of increasing the audience is done they can move him on and bring in a cheaper replacement or Scott Mills or Greg James to pull more of the Radio 1 audience across.

Pjex, if you think Vernon is an odd fit then why would you think Scott would work better? He's even less into the guitar based music than Vernon is!

Greg James would work but I can't see him leaving Radio 1 anytime soon.

I do think it's a shame that they're not broadening the playlist. I like that Chris is bringing in features to try and get different music played!

I understand DJs aren't always fans of the music they play, the issue is I've always found Vernon a bit dull and they don't let him say much on the new show. Scott is full of personality and would bring a very entertaining show to Radio X.

I do hope Jon Holmes stays, never listened to XFM breakfast until his last few weeks once we knew he was going but his new weekend breakfast show is a revelation great to have a really entertaining breakfast show at the weekends when you're up earlier than you'd like to be. I hope Jon's slot isn't temporary and they keep him on as it's a really good listen.

I wonder if Moyles is trying to get Pat Sharp to cover which would explain the need to reassure us how much he likes the music on Radio X. Pat covers for Bam Bam on SamFM which has always been a bit of a clone of the CMS and the zoo format, or as much as the budget will allow. Pat doesn't have the same energy though when compared to Moyles or even Bam Bam.
To be honest Bam Bam wouldn't be a bad choice for a slot on Radio X although not sure if he is a big enough name.

I actually like Big Verns show

Its less jarring to transfer from Chris into his show than it would if it were some xfm weirdo

They should get rid of that dull & utterly boring Madam Dave and replace him with DJ Rob.

Rob adds energy, personality & enthusiasm to the show.

Sam FM....what a dreadful name for a radio station!

And the station strap line is "we're in charge" Talk about instant listener exclusion!

Could be worse, somebody thought it'd be a good idea to call a rock station Real xs.

Well they had to choose something due to the jackfm debrand. Not sure I'd have gone with Sam though. The irony of "we're in charge" is that Jack actually is otherwise they'd still be "playing what we want".

I have to say though that the format works and doesn't appear to exclude the listener as its all tongue in cheek in a moyles sort of way. Also jack2 now "play what we want" from a limited list which you vote for on their website. A good way to include listeners and throw some more advertising at them.

Miss Paul Darrow though.

The official party line is that Dave is too busy with his company but I think it's pretty obvious that they don't talk to each other now, and listening back to the old shows you can tell that things weren't right between them. I always wondered if that was the reason Ben Cooper called time on the show, rather than the pressure to get the average listener age down.

Of course, Chris isn't going to discuss the fallout so unless Dave talks then they're sticking to the "other commitments" excuse.

Rob has known Chris, & even Pippa and Dom for a good number of years. Dave has known them for a couple of months at most, the show is three weeks in, give him time to settle in. He's been producing XFM's breakfast shows for years, there's a reason they've kept him.

So he must have asked Stephen Nolan not to ask him about that or Nolan is crap and missed it because he gilded over it by just saying "Dave has his production company now" and Nolan never mentioned an argument...
