He already made a joke about it this morning. Said something about a good playlist for the platinum hour and he's surprised the songs were allowed and then added a quip about them being on the playlist already.

I think it's clear that Chris is just as frustrated with the playlist restraints as we are. He's already discussed in interviews that whilst he's been given carte blanche to do what he likes with the show, there are certain things he can't do as part of ofcom regulations etc. I'm assuming changes to the playlist fall under the 'not allowed to meddle with' banner.

It ain't.”

But aren't Pogoues an alternate/indie band so right up Radio X's street, if they are playing any Xmas music won't this be top of there list?

Maybe they'll rebrand as Radio Xmas for December.

Back to the playlist Weller, last played Wed. How many old playlist songs do we think they have in total?

If Moyles is choosing the songs himself I doubt he is checking whether a song was played on Wednesday evening or the middle of the night a week last Friday

Quite enjoying the Platinum hour actually. Haven't heard the last two tracks they've played in years.

I am sorry to say from next week I am going to have to listen for only 13 hours and the last hour on a Friday put on the Nixtape on Radio 1 or Freewind on Free Radio

It's a shame the highlight of the old show is the lowlight of the new one and causing listeners to tune out and back to Radio 1 of all places, they need to do something about that.

Doesn't look like any of my suggestions are getting an airing

At least they have gone with less obvious Oasis and Ocean Colour Scene tracks but still core Radio X artists.

Moyles is enough of a geek it wouldn't surprise me if he does check, it's very easy to do on their website. He's obviously given a list to pick from not really selecting the songs is it.

He's saying he's choosing the songs. Are you saying he's lying about that?

No I'd never accuse Chris of that, most radio presenters yes but not Chris his honesty is what makes him such a good presenter.

My point is choosing the songs implies that you're choosing your favourite songs without restriction which is clearly not the case. He is only choosing songs which fit Radio X's extremely narrow music remit.

I always thought Heart's tag line of More music variety was a joke when compared to the BBC, but I get it now they are comparing them selves to other Global stations like Radio X which have no variety whatsoever which is a shame.

Radio X actually play my most of my favourite artists but I like to hear a wider selection of artists, I realise it will never be as broad as Radio 1 or 2 but a station like Absolute manages to play a wider selection of tunes whilst still appealing to the same demographic as Radio X.

I doubt the playlist is down to ofcom regs, its far more likely to be within the stations control. I have never quite understood playlists and rotation as I thought it all came down to economics i.e. band has a new album out, their back catalogue becomes cheaper to play to help with promotion, play the same track within 24 hrs, a week, a month and get it cheaper. If that's not the case then local radio should be shot.

They defo need to fix the flexibility Chris has though with regard to the playlist even if its just for the platinum hour.

Of course there is another perspective, Chris works better when there is something to rebel against. It would be quite boring if he got his own way all the time, or at least be seen to be getting his way.

Producer Dave not even 100% dedicated to the show as he was also producing the 10am Sat slot yesterday which must be a distraction.

Jon Holmes also had a go at him yesterday saying he has one anecdote which he has used with Moyles, but also used on Jon's breakfast show plus Danny Wallace and Dave Berry.

Jon also did a mash up of Chris' voice with him demanding Heroin, do think Chris will approve of that?

I hardly think producing one other show is not being dedicated, on the show Dave has mentioned being away at weekends so he was probably covering, I doubt a 6 day week will be happening for him every week.

Jon Holmes seems massively bitter from some of the stuff I've read, I mean I don't listen to him but I've read a few things about digs at Moyles.

I don't think he's bothered to have lost the slot, it's more that he lost it to Chris that irks him.

There's always been a massive radio/media snobbery against Chris and people who think they are 'real/proper DJs' and Chris isn't don't like it when Chris arrives. A lot of it is from his early R1 days with stories how he upset John Peel and a few of the overblown stories that the media constantly rake up (Charlotte Church, the 'gay' ring tone, Will Young, not being paid rant and probably his Auschwitz comments being the main ones). It's a bit sad that he isn't more respected, obviously some people do but surely the most successful breakfast DJ at R1 would be respected by most in the industry? Sadly, this isn't the case.

It seems a growing number of people are having beef with Dave, for me there is something that just annoys me about him. He has no positive effect on the Moyles show, he needs to start taking more of a back seat now no need to have him on air.

I don't think Jon's bitter he's just taking the piss. He's also done the same about Jonny Vaughan, Heart and Toby Anstis as well. It's just the nature of Jon's show.

For me the Platinum Hour would be better with the old format of the first half being from a mystery year then the second half being more random or team choices.

Agreed surely they could do that format and still keep to the music format. Although it would be nice if it was broader just for that hour.

Agreed. I wasn't necessarily saying the music is down to ofcom though

It's great having Chris back. The show is great and I love catching up with the podcast. 3 years too late.

However every time i hear the cheesy song, I just want it to kick in. Miss the full cheesy song.

The problem with Dave is at the moment thee are not big features for him to produce and create during the day after the show. For example, the reliance on the wheel of chance is made on air, the competitions will be done by Global imaging and marketting so what does he do? The finer details Pippa will do but it might be Dave needs more responsibility. I can not help but feel he is there to bring familiarity to the old XFM listeners rather then alienate them by Chris coming with a team that no one knows. But, it is almost like his handover period is done. His wifes name and his music poems were funny but it is because Chris made them funny and not because Dave had a character. There is also too much reliance on Venon. The handover should be used at the end of the show as traditional rather then having Vernon for 40 minutes. I just dont know who could fill Dave Vittys place.
