Track 4 is an artist not usually played, best hour so far?

I'm not able to listen to the Platinum hour as my daughter is sleeping on me. What have they been playing pjex?

Same with track 5, they don't usually play Aerosmith so with this and the GNR track to start they are adding in some classic rock, nice that it's not all indie. Should have also played the Paul Simon track in this hour to really broaden it.

GNR, Weezer, Ash, Elastica, Aerosmith nothing really way off format.

And now track 6, James. Off to a meeting so will miss 2nd half.

Maybe not anything way off format, but there is certainly nothing else like this at 9am on a friday morning. Awesome!

It was certainly different this week, they have improved the format by throwing in some curved balls, unusual for them to play the Beatles and Blondie.

Not just Chris moaning about Florence, Jon Holmes just introduced her as 'played with alarming regulatory'. She is Mercury nominated so could be more of her on the station.

Like many others have said, loving the show still... struggling slightly with the music, it is not the type of music, rather the frequency the songs are rotated.

Great Platinum Hour. Some real rarities, proper "they don't make them like this anymore" moments.

What amuses me about the slightly inappropriate tracks is that it registers on the now playing on the website and the DLS.

Platinum hour sounds no different to the rest of the music you hear on Radio X.

However enjoyed Moyles LBC bits today, kinda felt odd as I could imagine him on LBC.

"And.... more importantly, is the government to blame?"

(PS: Platinum hour sounded completely different last week)

In a sense yes!

The Wheel of Inappropriate Tracks feature was a bit disappointing today - the track was Groove Armada, which didn't really sound inappropriate at all.

Have they ever played anything genuinely naff or outlandish on this feature?

Sounds like it's as cutting edge as it always* was.

Moyles on Xfm. A cocktail made in Hell.

(*actually, once upon a time it was. Until the Corporate Old Men took hold.)

Chris Moyles has never been on XFM. A brand new fresh station called Radio X has replaced XFM, it is a different format to XFM in that is is more personality based adding Moyles, Vernon Kay, Johnny Vaughn and Ricky Wilson plus an entertainment based weekend breakfast show with ex XFM breakfast host Jon Holmes. Comedy duo John and Ellis from XFM Saturday mornings have transferred to Radio X in the same time slot.

Musically similar to XFM but be very clear this is not XFM and is aiming for a much broader audience who want a mix of chat and fresh rock and guitar based music. It's no longer just focused on the niche indie music fans.

The station has also grown from being a local station in London, Manchester and Glasgow to being a fully national station on the UK's number 1 commercial DAB multiplex Digital 1. One downside is a lack of investment by Global radio (or maybe due to paying its new starts too much) it has been unable to afford a stereo slot so is only available on DAB in mono. You can still pick up Radio X in full blown two channel stereo in FM (London and Manchester only), online and via TV (Sky/Virgin).

Just to be clear Chris Moyles is not and never has been on XFM.

I'm sorry, but did you use the words "fresh", "new" and "niche indie" in relation to any radio station containing the letter "X" as owned and operated now or at any time by Global Radio? I think you are confused with a long departed radio station containing the letter "X" not owned or operated by Global Radio.

The words you are looking for relating to the station(s) to which you refer are: "tired", "repetitive", "bland", "predictable", "safe", "stale" and "The Vaccines".

Can you tell me how Moyles who has been the most controversial national DJ of this century be described as predictable/safe/stale/bland?

I agree. Back to his best - the Skyfall interview was very clever.

Platinum hour on, got mix of tunes so far, Joan Jett, Hard Fi, Iggy Pop, Talking Heads and hinting at U2 next (Dom's favourite) who they wouldn't normally play.
