He has the potential to make Radio X big and no reason why they shouldn't be aiming to exceed Absolute radio's audience but don't think they'll ever be as a big as Radio 1, 2, Heart and Capital due to the limited FM coverage whilst a huge amount of radio listening (particularly in car) is done via FM.
I have DAB in the car, wouldn't ever buy a car without DAB now.

Moyles will attract audiences from radio 1, 2 and Absolute and, you are 100% right, he has the potential to make Radio X big and I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't take Radio X to London's number 1 at Breakfast before the end of 2016

What are you talking about from Global's website;

Radio X; 892,000 people tune into Radio X each week, and 67% of those are in the ABC1 bracket.

Classic FM; 69% of Classic FM's audience are ABC1, most are interested in the arts and finer things in life, constantly seeking out aspirational lifestyles, new experiences and ethical choices.

So Classic FM getting only a slightly higher 2% more in the ABC1 bracket, what a load of rubbish that Radio X won't appeal to ABC1 when 67% are in this category. Please check your facts before posting!
Radio X's audience is based on Xfm's last Rajar: 892,000. Classic Fm's last Rajar was 5,276,000.

69% of 5,276,000 is roughly six times greater than 67% of 892,000.

So Classic FM's ABC1 audience isn't 2% higher than Radio X's, it's 600% higher. Or is that 500% higher? I was never very good at maths.

I loved it. I'd forgotten what I'd missed really until I started listening this morning. Good fun. Great to have Chris and Dom back.

That's only because Classic has national FM coverage, give it to Radio X they'd hold the audience and have a similar percentage of ABC1.

Just get Moyles playing classical!

On the basis of the number of tracks he gets away, he'd only manage one piece. And would probably talk all over it!

This caught me by surprise. Have now downloaded the app and will be listening on my way to work from tomorrow. Anyone know if you can play back the show from this morning as I have a long drive home and it would be nice to catch up on his first show. I've slowly grown accustomed to Mr Grimshaw but there's no competition now!

Yeah within the app just navigate to schedule, select today's date and then select Listen Again next to the picture of Moyles.

Listened to 30 minutes, heard 1 song then remembered why I didn't like him before. Back to Absolute.
Complete opposite for me

I pretty much gave up on breakfast radio after Moyles left Radio 1, my daily commute then involved listening to CDs or a few mins of Radio 5....

I've never listened to XFM (Radio X) before but loved waking upto it this morning! Looks like they will have a new listener for the next few months at least !!

It's great to have him back on the radio. Couldn't listen to all of the show this morning but enjoyed the bits I heard.

Chris Moyles will always split peoples opinions. He wouldn't be so successful if he wasn't a bit controversial.

If people want someone who is just going to sit back and push play then he isn't your man. But if you want a presenter with a personality and a show which has content rather than just playing music then you'll never do better than him.

He's unquestionably going to be a success on Radio X.

I don't mind him talking but it was just too much talking 40 mins at times with no music what so ever. That to me makes a music focused station pointless.

Worked for 8.5 years on Radio 1, why break a winning formula?

Would be a nice idea if Chris Moyles took over the rest of the global radio stations for one day to promote the new brand.

No it wouldn't. It would be the quickest way to get listeners tuning elsewhere.

Listener numbers are meaningless unless they are compared to the TSA.

Yes but this isn't radio one. It is, or was, a specialist music station for fans of alternative music.

But the RAJARs will be the ultimate judge.

Moyles natural progression should have been R2 the BBC have lost out big time . I just feel Chris Moyles is wasted on Radio X it''s kinda like a director of say Tesco becoming a deprtment manager in a store. You compare even the Radio X studio it's tiny and they are all squashed in compared with R1, Imaging has been drastically reduced, his pay is probably 50-60% less, harder for audiences to tune in, he'll probably lose out on big talent coming to the studio as they will probably shrug the offer away and give priority to the BBC or Capital for that matter.

Wasn't XFM Globals worst performing brand hence the need to go less alternative and more mainstream by hiring Moyles, Vernon and Johnny. Moyles has form at bringing in huge audiences and many loyal fans who he can bring to the new station.

I must say the music is still a bit too alternative and think they need to play some more mainstream guitar music if they want to take on Absolute. My concern is X unlike Absolute will ignore bands like Coldplay, Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, the Beatles, Queen, Dire Straits because they aren't cool enough. They are in danger of missing listeners who are alienated by the you have to be a cool indie kid to listen vibe, changing presenters helps lose that feel but the playlist needs broadening to cover some more mainstream artists. Even do an Absolute90s and drop in some credible dance anthems.

Apart from Girls Aloud which was a one off, I can't see X playground anything surprising

I loved it. As a huge fan of the old Radio 1 show I was worried I was looking back on it with the old rose coloured glasses on, but this morning was like meeting up with an old friend. The opening bars of the cheesy song almost brought a tear to my eye (to be fair, I was hungover and had set the alarm for 6.28 purely to listen to the start of the show so was feeling a little tired and emotional!). Loved the familiarity of Dom being on the team and how quickly they just fell back into the old routine. And it wasn't remotely tired as a format, just the perfect breakfast show for me.

I think the Grimbore years, that have seen me flit between Xfm and Radio 4, have really shown me how important breakfast radio is as it really can set the tone for your whole day.

Moyle's is at home on Radio X, I think its fair to say he is "bigger than the station" and so hopefully Global will treat him well for it.

I like the fact music wasn't pushed throughout the morning, I still don't understand who listens to the radio for "that was, this is" followed by generic music that's been played to death.

Moyle's is a great talent and whilst alot of people don't like him, you can't deny he is good at what he does. Moyles is what commercial radio needs!

I agree with many of the comments above, a real treat to have him back on the radio. Straight forward, funny and easy going as ever, it was a great listen. Aled, Dave, Rachel, Carrie and Tina were all superb as part of the team back in the day; I'm intrigued to see whether he can ever reach these heights again in terms of creativity and repartee with the team. I gave up on Grimmy pretty much immediately and have moved to Chris Evans; radio x has a new listener in me when I can!
