Apparently they fell out over Dave's ex missus as Chris stayed friends with her so Dave felt betrayed. Whether there was more to it or not I wouldn't know.
As for the radio show, I actually prefer Masterman over Vity now anyway. All Vity seemed to do was just repeat everything Moyles said. |

And I've said it before that I think BamBam would be a good addition to the Radio X line up.

As mentioned before I think they need to make the 7pm sound different to the rest of the show. Have a proper weekend breakfast show and maybe get some new presenters to at least be cover. Ross doing 7 hour shows is too much
I think they should be aiming for a Radio1/2-style schedule: big names and more mainstream music during the day, and something a bit more specialist in the evenings. But I really like Tim Cocker's evening show on Virgin, which is pretty mainstream, so poaching him back for a similar show could work too if they didn't want to go too specialist after 7. Manchester certainly seems to miss him, judging by the RAJARs! Ironically, dropping the 'Weekender' with the relaunch probably gave those slots less mainstream appeal rather than more. I was never a big XFM listener, but the Weekender was one of the few shows I'd listen to as it was always a great trip down memory lane. |

You'd think if things don't improve they'll give breakfast to Vaughan, which might well have been their best move in the first place. |

So he's got a year to save it. I'd say he'll need to be breaking the 1m listener mark pretty sharp. I'd imagine they'd have been looking for 2m originally.

Moving Johnny Vaughan to breakfast could well be the future if Moyles doesn’t remain on the station for whatever reason. Vaughan has been very successful in the drivetime slot, and would still give them a household name but at significantly less cost. Plus he has a good history with the Global group. As we’ve all said, it’s probably a safe assumption that the only reason Vaughan doesn’t cover for Moyles on breakfast is because Moyles has had it written into his contract that he has final say over his holiday cover. |

I think they absolutely should make 7-10pm more 'indie'. What they have at the moment is just a bit bland and unlikely to appeal in a big way to either music fans or a mainstream audience.

I think you're overestimating how much one single presenter could have on a fairly niche station with FM coverage limited to 2 big cities. I doubt anyone seriously expected 2 million.

Is the addition of The Police, Alanis Morrisette and Yellow by Coldplay (all played by Johnny in the last 2 days) a long awaited shift in music policy to better compete with Absolute?

It's not X of old, that's for sure. But its still a pretty distinct station. And sounding pretty good IMHO. Maybe if Globotech wants to compete head-on with Absolute over the male 30-something demo then perhaps it's time NME said 'third time's the charm' for it's indie/studenty/moody station of old. Not likely, but I can hope! |

Oh yeah. Check out what Phil Clifton played Thursday night: http://www.radiox.co.uk/playlist/201.../phil-clifton/
That's a pretty glaring shift. 11 songs from 2016 in a 38 song 'evening' show, which you'd ordinarily expect to skew to newer music. A notable number of pre-2000 songs in there too - I'm counting 13 at first glance, more than the new songs. There's a good number of mid 00s tunes to add to that too. Got to say I'm not convinced just adding more classics and MOR tracks is going to save the day. |

PS. I don't think I've ever heard The Police on X before (probably excepting the early Capital days, & Moyles's indulgent hour?), and I've listened fairly regularly since the start.
Same goes for Fleetwood Mac. |

Well, I have dipped in and out of the 'best of' week and to be honest it has left me cold. Two weeks of Vernon and another best of week may just kill off any audience he was building - if the rumours are true of him not allowing Vaughan to cover for him then he has cut his nose off to spite his face in my opinion.
A shocking decision by Global to allow this state of affairs. |

Sounds like he's taking too much holiday. The radio industry is like any other industry - you've gotta graft if you want to succeed. Look at some of the other presenters on X like Ross Buchanen working 7 hour shifts - they're grafting cos they're young and they want to make it. Moyles thinks he has already made it but making it on a niche DAB station is a different ball game to making it on a national FM station. You might be able to get away with having this much holiday when you're at the top but he needs to accept that his days at the top are long gone. Just because they have offered him this much holiday in his contract doesn't mean he has to take it.
I think that Vaughan covering for him would be a bad idea. If Vaughan's show was covered during (a) his own holiday and (b) during Moyles' too then that would scupper his own chances of building his own drive audience. Why should he make that sacrifice? |

Do we know if Dave, Pippa and Dom are joining Vernon over the next 2 weeks?
The main problem I feel that hasn't been highlighted here, is that although Moyles seems to be off every other week, the rest of the team are still there 90% of the time, even when Moyles isn't, for example, they usually co-present with Vernon and I can't think of a sustained period, other than the 2 weeks over Christmas last year, that they have actually had any time off, apart from the odd day here and there - Dom was even in on Friday reading the news! So, I wonder if this current month period is more for them, than it is for Moyles? Looking forward, maybe they need to build a temporary 'team' around Vernon, (though we all know that penny pinching Global would never allow that!) so that when Moyles is off, his team can take the same time off as him, as they used to do when he was at 1 and then they wouldn't have this current situation, where the resident team are being run ragged, but Moyles is always off on holiday - and this is also exacerbated, as has been pointed out in previous posts, by the fact that Moyles probably has it written into his contract that Vernon and not Vaughan can cover for him and so they can't move Johnny and his team over to Breakfast when Moyles is off, as used to happen with Scott Mills, at 1! |

Johnny Vaughan's off next week anyways (Clint Boons on) so the whole covering for Johnny thing is a bit redundant.

As I said in an earlier thread with Chris struggling I can see Greg James move to R1 breakfast to really put an even bigger dent in Chris's ratings.
I think the problem they have got is there is to many adverts, and the same adverts people just don't like this especially coming from the BBC, where Chris could talk for half hour with no interruptions. Also I think it was the wrong choice to just play indie music they should have been more like R1/R2 - to really make a radio station for the inbetweeners of the lapse between R1 & R2. Maybe Chris waited to long to go back on the radio if he joined straight off the back of R1 things may have been different. I can't see Chris gaining much more listeners. I also didn't realise how many people do not like Vernon Kay surely there is not long left in his tenure. Does anyone know his rajar figures. |

I believe Chris had a clause in his old contract preventing him from doing a show for 3 years. He left his R1 job before he was out of the renewed contract term.
His on air persona has shifted back to slightly more ranty than when he first started on X. Really, Chris would be better on a talk station but there's no suitable home for him at the moment. X is improving and the music is good, but the high profile somewhat laddish DJs isn't perhaps to everyone's taste. Seems to be unsure what it is. |

I don't believe that would of prevented him moving to another station. Like you say he left whilst his contract was still going. So something would have to give I can't see he was still paid when he he left.

Just seems a bit strange he had a big following then to doing nothing, people have moved on, maybe they should of changed heart instead and Chris could of done a national breakfast show. I think that would of worked better.

Well his contract was until 2014 and they took him off air in September 2012, so he certainly will have still been getting paid when he left.

I don't think he was pushed out by Ben cooper, we all know Chris and Dave did not get along even tho you couldn't tell on air, so maybe it was his choice to leave when he did and Ben didn't say no. I'm sure he was offered other time slots but decided not to take them which might of ment he didn't get paid the remainder of his contract, Chris also had to pay a large tax bill due to a tax avoidance loophole.
