He did an interview with Nolan on 5live last September and explained his R1 departure, he was pushed they even wanted to announce his departure minutes after he was told but got them to agree he could tell his audience next day. He wanted to make 10 years at breakfast so was frustrated with the timing.
Andy Parfit renewed Moyles' contract before he stepped down as controller this was announced at the time so Moyles was due to stay until 2014. I imagine they give him a big pay off and the terms of that we're probably not to present with a competitor for 3 years as if he'd started within months of leaving R1 there would have been a great no. Of listeners moving across.
Agree a month off is a long time, but it is August and many other professions, teaching, politicians have longer off at this time of year. The majority of his audience will probably have 1 or 2 weeks off over this period so not many will notice he's been away for do long.
