Well, Live Lounge month has already pulled in Justin Bieber, so Radio 1 still has a huge draw. If you want one radio station in the UK to push your artist to 15-29 year-olds it's still Radio 1 that's the biggest draw by miles.
There is a danger though of ending up in a vicious circle of decline. The figures go down a bit more, less people are interested, down a bit more, etc etc. Trying to get a decent Eurovision entry out of the UK is hit by this sort of thing - no-one wants to get involved until things improve, and things won't improve until people get involved.
Radio 1 sounds like it needs another Bannistering, to be honest. Problem is, last time it was done it was coming from a huge audience base. Get it wrong this time and you don't have a radio station.
Tired is the word, and unfocused. Why is Radio 1 doing summer mixes of non-stop music in daytime? You've got some of the best music radio DJs in the country, and if I want non-stop music I'll go to Capital.
