1 Dom panics and cannot present off the cuff.
2 Kay is a huge turn off to Moyles fans.
3 People tune in to listen to Moyles - if he goes, the audience does.
4 As you say, Masterman and badly are synonomous.

Summarising, the morning audience tunes in to listen to one person, and one person only.
Not according to Rajar. Oh and 1) is an act.

Did anyone else think the Sam Neill interview was a bit 'eggy' at times?

I know it's supposed to a 'free' format, but the others butting in with remarks during the interview annoys me.

Just seemed out of place for me, I only usually listed for 30 Mins on my way into work, as my new car now has DAB. His name wasnt mentioned when I was listening, so I had to guess who it was, I was right!

I find Dominic awkward to listen to - he's like Moyles' court jester or dancing monkey. He's so far up Chris's arse.

Overall, I enjoy the show. Problem for me is the ads, far too frequent - I switch over during the ads (normally to 5Live) then end up forgetting to switch back,

I haven't seen the RAJARS, are the figures very low?

Agreed. It's almost uncomfortable how the whole show revolves around whatever Chris wants. The other three are clearly afraid to challenge him on-air. Note how the personal lives of those three (especially Pippa and Dave) form a focal part of the show. Yet we never pry into Chris's. This is interesting given the Guardian interview with Moyles earlier in the year suggested he does have a partner.

There was an example of that a few weeks ago when Pippa found an old clip of Chris broadcasting several years ago. When she said she would play it, he said it would never be played or 'I will nuke your ass'.

He was not joking.

What stood out to me when Radio X launched- and bear in mind that historically I've only ever really listened to local radio which tends to be a DJ talking to the listener with a producer chiming in rather than the full-blown conversation of these shows, so this four-person format was new to me- was that Moyles' relationship with his co-hosts reminded me of the school bully and his hangers-on, agreeing out of a kind of fear while Vaughan's felt more like the elder statesman commanding respect.

Agree with both those comments, beemoh and Mou. Having now switched to Christian O'Connell, there's again a more friendly atmosphere on-air. I never heard Moyles' Radio 1 show? Is it fair to say he was taken to task a bit more there?

Have to disagree there, Vaughan even makes a thing of the culture of bullying on his show he frequently bullies little Si and always favours Gavin over Sunta in the quizes, Vaughan come across of more of a bully than Chris.

What was with the 3 songs in a row between 8 and 8:30 today this must be unheard of for Chris and why in the peak half hour? Is he being forced to introduce more music?

No. They just aren’t what, it’s probably safe to assume, Global (and Moyles) were expecting.
If they were for a typical breakfast show of its type they’d be perfectly fine. But given the profile of Moyles, the money Global are paying him, and the money spent on advertising – I think it’s safe to assume everyone was expecting much better.

The Radio 1 show was even worse - he was a total tyrant then.

I miss that part of him

Thing is, I welcomed nicey nice new mature Moyles when he first appeared. Then it got boring hearing him go on about eating healthily and going to the gym, so frankly the rant a while back was a breath of fresh air.

It's a very, very fine line. The guys seem to get on ok and I suspect a lot of the rantier stuff is said with a smile. But there's a fine line between that and actually being horrible.

I don't think I could take ultra-lad Moyles from the late 90s/early 00s again, but a bit of an edge is perfectly healthy. If you want happy and uncontroversial there's a million other stations on the dial.

From the new Popbitch:

Moyles: arsehole

If you're one of the half-dozen
people still listening to Chris
Moyles on Radio X you may have
heard him embark on another of
his infamous tirades against
"the management" last week –
but surely the suits can't be
entirely to blame for his
lacklustre ratings.

For despite his huge drop-off
in listeners, Radio X managed
to secure Moyles an interview
with a big international rock
band. Kings Of Leon, no less.

Which you'd think would be a
pretty decent olive branch,
right? Except Moyles blackballed
the set-up. Prior beef with
the band, apparently.

You know what they say about
arseholes, don't you Moyles?
Run into an arsehole in the
morning, then you've run
into an arsehole. Run into
arseholes all day every day,
then the arsehole is you.

FYI: Moyles' show was on for 43
minutes that day before he played
his first record. Which was by...
The Clash.

He didnt blame management for the ratings, he blamed them for not letting him broadcast on Facebook live.

And 43 minutes before the first song. Yes, thats what he does. On X for the last year and on Radio 1 for many years. Nothing new.

Don't get the point about The Clash, at all.

Sigh. The 'Little Si' thing is just so obviously a joke. He did the same thing with 'Welshy' and 'Little Rich' on Capital Breakfast. Vaughan, Sunta and Gav have excellent chemistry.

Check out Sunta's Twitter feed to show what she thinks of him - and remember she's been on X for over a decade.

As for Moyles and Kings of Leon. Utterly ridiculous if true. Popbitch were the guys who broke the story of Moyles joining XFM, so they obviously have some intel from inside.

Understand Little Si is joke but it's very close to the edge the other day he said he'd never hit Si... because he wouldn't be able to stop once he started. Moyles would never go that far so how is Moyles more of a bully?

Not sure how big a deal that is really, they've been in lots of places recently. Co-hosted with Pete Donaldson on Absolute I believe, also had a big interview with Jo Whiley on Radio 2. Mind you, wouldn't have hurt Moyles to have them on, I'm sure.

The Kings Of Leon story comes back to three ongoing issues with Moyles on Radio X: The lack of goodwill from people he's pissed off on the way up, how much he fits the brand, and how coherent Radio X is as a brand in the first place.

On the face of it, someone at Popbitch has clearly got it in for Moyles. As plenty of people do. And given he's not all-conquering any more he's an easy person to have a kick at. There's not much Moyles can do about that really, those he has pissed off will continue to knock him.

In terms of Kings of Leon themselves? For a rock brand that would be a decent deal, and for the former XFM would have been perfect. Moyles' show has always really been about Moyles though, and it's not like it was Taylor Swift (ok name some huge rock band I haven't heard of who are regularly in the charts, them instead). So it's a clash of what the station is there for. Again.

Chris seems settled this week. Only heard up to Thurs so far (I'm a day behind due to downloading show). I laughed out loud and had a grin on my face again. The 'drunk sounding podcast was funny and his daily mirror review part. Back to his best.
Even dropped in a ' 8 minutes to 8 so if your bus is at 8 you need to leave now

I'm glad he said that. It was at that point I realised I had overlaid. So cheers, Chris.

O'Connell a friendly atmosphere? Only if you call a group of acolytes being paid to laugh at every over-scripted, laboured joke friendly ...
