Maybe you could us a list of people who *are* allowed to make fun of homosexuals, just so we're all on the same page?

Some of the things Moyles has said in the past such as the gay ringtone comment and the Will Young song were misjudged. I don’t think there was any malice, and I think the ringtone comment was throwaway, but still misjudged and I imagine something he wouldn’t do now anyway.
One thing I’ve mentioned before is when Aled split up with his boyfriend and was later in the week repeating the story of telling the team, getting upset and Chris being the first to go over to him and comfort/hug him. I personally don’t think that’s the behaviour of someone who is homophobic. |

I don't think we know how much of a success it's been by the most important metric - commercial success. They are reaching a demographic none of the rest of the Global portfolio reaches, and it seems to be a demographic advertisers are interested in. There is far more commercial activity on the station than there used to be - XFM was, after all, a commercial disaster.
I tired of Radio X quickly after launch, but tuning back in over the last few weeks it sounds to me that the breakfast show and VK have really got their act together. Along with drive, I don't think I've laughed along with the radio so much in years. They have to give the set up time. Inevitably they were going to lose XFM listeners and the presenters were going to take a while to find their feet. Listeners will start to find their way back to the station. There's no need to panic. That was why Moyles was so suited to a pop station. It's more universal, more people could enjoy him. They'll never get big listening figures with that playlist. I've said that on this forum from when the station started. |

You can tell me the presenters have got their act together as much as you like but there's still going to be many, many people like me who think the music is awful!
A far cry from the days where predictably you'd hear Florence + the Machine on almost every show. Quote:

Anyone the music doesn't appeal to isn't the audience Radio X are looking for. Simple.
But I think it illustrates why Chris Moyles was a bad fit. |

Maybe the music isn't to your taste but it's improved ten-fold since it's beginnings over a year ago. This morning for example in Moyles' show I heard 'Intergalactic' by The Beastie Boys and in Vernon's show I heard 'Fear' by Ian Brown as well as 'Champage Supernova' by Oasis.
A far cry from the days where predictably you'd hear Florence + the Machine on almost every show. I enjoy listening to Moyles on whichever station he heads to. Radio X was a surprise to me when it was announced he was joining, however he makes it work so well IMO. The playlist (as I've already mentioned) is far better than it has been in the past. I only hope Global keep it this way, as I've certainly listened longer than I used to. What we need is more songs and less repetition (it works well for Absolute so don't say commercial stations can't do it) but we just have an alt/indie version of Heart. Moyles, JV and Ellis and John make it listenable but the other presenters are weak. Vernon was never good enough for a daytime slot on R1. |

Disagree about the music policy I don't think it's changed since the start, Florence may not be on A list but Catfish and Viola Beach are on heavy rotation. Them playing Oasis, Ian Brown and Beastie Boys is nothing new could have been played on the opening day.

Those songs may be nothing new but as a "returned" listener, I find the music choice quite refreshing though I do agree that their playlist does need expanding. However, IMO, the playlist has widened a little bit more since Radio X was "born". |

It's not so much the artists they're playing as the classic tracks they're choosing from those bands. It'll be interesting to see what future RAJARs bring. |

I get your point, but I think Moyle's can attract a demographic to Global's portfolio that isn't being reached by commercial radio. I've moved - for now at least - from R2 / R6M. Would 16 year olds want to listen to him? I certainly wouldn't be listening to the music on Capital through choice.

Interesting they are celebrating George's life 15 years on from his death but no mention of Freddie Mercury's 25 years since passing last week. |

The Beatles Here Comes the Sun followed by AC/DC Back in Black was a good opening set of songs this morning.

Just to add to the comments on music policy - playlist definitely has widened in terms of older songs since launch. However, virtually nothing they play now is far off what might have been on XFM. Maybe the odd Queen song, I've heard some Fleetwood Mac, Blondie which weren't regulars.
And the new music is what's letting them down for me. Far, far narrower than even the dying days of XFM. Are we really to believe their listeners are completely averse to hearing two or three new or different bands on A-list repetition? |

This is Global all over if you listen to their other networks. There seems to be no policy for allowing stuff played in evenings (newer or outside core playlist) into the daytime playlist. Neither is there any consistency through-out the daytime/weekend.I can only imagine this is what is letting down Radio X and listeners won't keep onboard just for the music regardless of presenter after CM Show. |

The show is starting an hour later than usual tomorrow and running through until 11am due to Global's Christmas party tonight. That should be...interesting.

having bloudie or fleetwood mac on playlist is not a good thing, yes Queen because their would play them back in days of XFM. I think they targeting absolute listeners.
i wish showcase new music like back XFM days. whether new Radio X editor reviews the current playlist. |

I don’t have an issue with the first hour of the show being a pre-record, but they could easily have acted as if it was live and I doubt anyone would really have noticed. And why then extend the show until 11am – it just makes it even more obvious they’ve changed the schedule due to their office Christmas party. It’s just a bit odd to me...

Maybe it’s just me, but a radio station re-arranging it’s prime schedule to accommodate its Christmas party seems a little unprofessional for me. Or at least being so open about it is.
