I find this rather strange. Why start an hour late and still be pre-recorded for the first 30 minutes? Surely it would be better to either get someone else to do the show or, oh I don't know, be professional and leave the party early if you start early the next day.

There will be a pretending of being totally sober for an hour and then slurring and pretending of being smashed.

Many offices allow a later start for employees after the Xmas party, why would DJs be any different?

Exactly. This situation is replicated in work places all over the country.

Radio stations are not hospitals that need to be staffed 24/7 no matter what. It's not life and death it's just radio and not really that important.

They're doing the build up to 8am very well...

I need to head out but I'll be staying tuned for the 8am news bulletin by a potentially hungover Dom.

September 2018 (I believe he signed a 3 year contract).

The thread is constantly derailed with general Radio X/the play list, that I'm not surprised the FM didn't want to trawl through it to find out the end of contract date. If the Radio X play list is such a big topic, it would be better to create a general Radio X thread.

Personally, I listen for Chris, as I - generally - like his presenting style and he makes me laugh. I switch over to 5 Live when the ads are on and, when Chris's show is finished, or he's on holiday, I veer between 5 Live/6/Radio 2. I don't understand this loyalty to a station - for me, it's the presenter, not the music and I constantly switch channels.

Well, there is a Radio X thread. Or three.

I’m still going to say it appears unprofessional. I’m sure it’s not the ‘done thing’ across most broadcast organisations, i.e. television and radio.
Out of interest, did Dave Berry start the Capital Breakfast Show late today? Or did Jamie Theakston start the Heart Breakfast Show late today? Honest question, just curious...

I think it’s believed it’s a 2 year contract, with an option to extend by a further year, if we’re being precise.
So it expires in September 2017, but could be extended to September 2018 if Global (and Moyles) want to.

If Global and Moyles agree to the one year extension, then probably still Chris Moyles (for another year at least).
If not, then Johnny Vaughan is probably the favourite to take over breakfast.

Just putting this out there....Fearne Cotton? Maybe not breakfast but she's an indie girl at heart...?

If only people would post their general Radio X comments on one of these, instead of derailing this Chris Moyles thread.

Once Moyles does leave (be that next year or the one after), that'll be me and Radio X done, as I'll just switch to wherever he goes.

Could see her quite happily fitting into Jo Good's old slot (read: Vernon's current one).

Would wonder if she wouldn't have the 'baggage' of being ex-Radio 1 and maybe more closely associated with the likes of Holly Willoughby and as such rejected by the listenership, though.

Jo Good was on afternoons, wasn't she? Had no idea Ferne Cotton was an indie kid. She's probably a better shout than Vernon, who definitely isn't. But I'm not convinced the 'celebrity' route is the way forward.

I'd be surprised if Moyles was kept on beyond September. Vaughan has to be the front runner to take over.

A possible problem with this is how she's shifted towards the "motherhood" demographic of late -- see (hear?) her recent sit-ins on Radio 2.

I suspect the ‘3rd year extension’ option in his contract allows Global to renegotiate his salary. And given his success isn’t what most expected, I expect they’ll want to do just that, rather than axe him altogether. So it’ll be a question of whether he’ll be happy to accept whatever lower offer they give him.

If not, I agree that Johnny Vaughan must be the front runner to replace him.

I'd wonder how many "celeb" signings we're likely to see in future (outside of breakfast/drive), given the station isn't the runaway success that was perhaps expected. Vernon must be getting quite a wedge, but does he really bring anyone into the station?
