Toby Tarrent covering Moyles next week, Ellis and John covering drive and Phil covering Vernon on his 3rd week off.

Disgraceful that Chris is off so much over Christmas.

"Disgraceful" that someone takes a fortnight off work at Christmas? Really?

Toby is cover for all shows it seems now. I think they are trialling him to replace Vernon and one of the cover people over Christmas Isssy? Will replace Toby on early bfast
The weekend and evening schedule needs some attention. Phil Clifton does a solid job but may be best suited to Weekends/daytime cover. |

Was just a bit of banter and in a way a good way to pay tribute to a fab breakfast show especially compared to the current one. I think they should move Grimmy to another slot and let Scott do breakfast as his last hurrah on Radio 1 before Greg takes over
I don't think it was a major dig. It does highlight how utterly dull the current Radio 1 imagining is though. |

What's the point of Toby Tarrent covering they could have any generic Global DJ doing the show, it's just the usual Global recipe of a few songs back to back, a very short link mainly, Moyles is back next week then another set of songs, odd choice for breakfast on a busy return to work day for most of the country. At least Ellis and John on the the way home but why not have them on breakfast surely more speech makes sense at breakfast rather than drive seems odd having a heavily music focused breakfast with a speech heavy drive this week, what's the reasoning behind it all?

Elis and John might not have wanted to do breakfast - after all they are comedians by trade so their main line of work is in the evenings, which is another reason why they don't cover other DJs as much as people want them to.
It also allows Dave Masterman a week of lie-ins while Chris is off, so everyone's a winner. I'm not sure about Toby clearly being lined up as the next big thing, he's better than some but has a high opinion of his own sense of humour. I also noticed on 1st Jan there was "non-stop music" through the night, is that the first gap in presenter-led programming since the XFM closure? X had non-stop music in certain slots towards the end, in fact the last hour of the station was. |

Maybe they wanted to give Ellis and John a try on weekdays, but didn't think they were ready for the all important breakfast slot so went with the "safe pair of hands" option instead. It makes sense they'd sit in for Johnny, since there's a lot of speech on his show anyway.
What I do find intriguing is that they haven't bothered with a daily best of Moyles like they did in the first week of January last year. I guess this time last year they hadn't had the ratings yet so were milking Moyles for all he was worth, now that they're aware he's not attracting as many listeners as they'd hoped, they aren't bothering. |

With the weekend shows there's probably less point to it. Am suprised he didnt do a special christmas day or NYE. Elis ans John are comedians sand probably fit better to Jonny Vaughans show. Gigs earn more money than radio shows

Any reason news was on at 8:08 on Toby's show poor timing or did he do a Moyles esqu 15 min link?
What's longer a Moyles opening link or the total of Toby's links for a full 3.5 hour show? Does Toby have nothing to say and why no features? Does he even have a producer, if so what do they do? |

I must say hats off to Ellis and Jon, they've been doing a fine job in the drive slot. They don't seem to be running out of content or ideas despite the jump from 3 to 15 hours a week! Also nice to have no BED in that slot, I wish Vaughan would get rid of his.
The non-stop music on new year's eve felt more like a deliberate programming decision as opposed to desperation? Presumably people would just want nothing but music as the soundtrack to a NYE party (not that anyone in their right mind would choose Radio X as the soundtrack to their party). Interesting to see some new presenters popping up and I always try and check new ones out but my lord I am getting tired of the Radio X music. Mind-numbingly narrow and repetitive. Get the music sorted and it really would be a decent station. |
