In that case, I guess the bit with Moyles actually did go out on the air, albeit in a planned place in Classic FM's show, rather than a spontaneous invasion.

Thanks for that info.

Yes Classic FM planned it as part of the slow strategy of introducing their listeners to Moyles. Then put an article on their website about his interview and the discussion on Brahms.

And people think the idea of Moyles on Classic FM is absurd. As Moyles referenced yesterday he used to feature classical music on his Radio 1 show I think he has very broad tastes and although he loves indie/rick music I sense he is a little frustrated at the narrow playlist of Radio X, sneaked in McFly today and wants to play the Bond theme (see the Mirror article) and Taylor Swift (Them playing the Ryan Adams cover is not quite the same). I don't see why Radio X can't allow each presenter one free choice per day it would liven things up a bit and keep Moyles happy, Vernon could then have a daily dance tune feature.

When I tune into a radio station I like to occasionally hear a song I'm surprised that the station is playing. You get that with the BBC, but Global radio stations are all very boring in their playlists and predictable.

I can fairly safely predict in the next few hours Radio X will play the Libertines, Florence and Arctic Monkeys.

I can't work out if you're being serious or not pjex?

The idea that there's a long term strategy to simulcast Moyles onto Classic FM (and other stations) is just about the craziest thing I've heard all year unless you believe Global are intent on rinsing audience down the drain.

In case you haven't listened for any length of time, Classic FM is polished, refined and places musical content above absolutely everything else; the complete opposite of what Moyles is all about.

Can you imagine the Heart audience with Moyles? And the Capital audience
I assume they didnt mind when he joined Capital back in 1996 prior to his move to Radio 1 and yes I know its different times/different audience back then.

"That was a beatiful piece by J.S.Bach...now here's Rob DJ with the Pub Quiz!"

Nah, can't see it happening.

It wouldn't it be like Absolute tracks get played but not announced, you just check your display if you want to know the track. Just like they do on Absolute. I wonder if names will change to the Global brand;

Capital - Global chart
Capital Xtra - Global dance
Heart - Global hits
Radio X - Global rock
Smooth - Global smooth
Gold - Global gold
Classic FM - Global Classical
LBC - Global Talk

They've just spent a million on the whole Radio X brand and the advertiser wouldn't welcome the Capital FM rebrand (hence why Galaxy rollout was reverted in 2011 in London).

No they wont. This will never happen. Ever.

And my post really wasn't about Moyles back-announcing songs. They won't come out of a Hayden piece into Rob DJ's quiz.

While the idea that Moyles could go out on Radio X, Capital, Heart, Smooth and Classic FM at the same time is absolute lunacy (radio station targeting and demographics is more than just about the music) there is something in this idea...

As you read through tweets you notice a lot of people are loving Moyles but hate the music.
What's to stop them adopting the Absolute technology and launching different internet streams with X Pop, X Dance, X 80's, X 90's and so on....

While launching new FM and DAB stations are difficult because they need licenses and are costly - They could launch as many internet variations as they wanted without too much difficulty, and relatively low cost.

Good idea, but needs an X Classical for those who like Classical music and Chris Moyles. No idea why their is such resistance to the idea that people might like both?

I like both Moyles and classical music. Which one I want to listen to depends on my mood. Can't see an occasion when I would be in the mood for both.

Anyway I suspect you are joking and the discussion will move onto mono any second now

No I'm not, big fan of Moyles and the new show and he's actually playing my favourite genre of music although would prefer a slightly broader mix but that's commercial radio for you.

He has Chris Tarrant as a guest tomorrow, interesting choice given his breakfast experience in that same building is Moyles after some tips?

Well, is there anything to stop Global developing an app that when Moyles plays a 3-minute track, it picks a 3 minute track from your Spotify recommended music list, or your Apple recommended music list, or whatever...

This could be how radio re-invents itself, and it needs someone like Moyles to do it.

So you think that after years of experience on the (as it was then) top rated UK breakfast show he needs some tips?

Tarrant is an odd guest, not really target audience but then Moyles likes him and he's talked about him on R1 so they may know each other.

I liked it when they asked people for guest ideas

Yes, a great broadcaster like Moyles gets to his position by always striving to improve and learning from other broadcasters. Its the arrogant DJs who think there the best thing ever and are not prepared to learn that end up stalling their careers or find they cannot get another job once they outgrow their current station.

Moyles has now proved he is a big deal and could successfully move on from Radio 1 to a station with a different target audience, he can adapt by learning from the other greats. One thing he has not got huge amount of experience in is commercial radio, yes I know that's where he started but he hasn't done it for 18 years until now, Tarrant can certainly help him there. There is a big difference between a successful BBC breakfast show and a successful commercial one. Commercial radio is all about audience numbers but the BBC is much more about getting the right type of listener so you have to adjust your presentation to adapt to these different aims.

How do you define top rated? When did Moyles ever exceed Radio 2's audience? Didn't Today also attract more listeners?

Moyles wanted to dep for Tarrant but Richard Park was against it.

Could this be introducing the Radio X listeners to Tarrant, the new home of popular ex breakfast DJs (Moyles, Vaughn, Tarrant)?

He's covered Steve Wright before so maybe being lined up for 1-4pm, Dan O'Connel is a bit pointless in that slot and doesn't really fit the personality driven mould the station is now looking for.

Again! That's a lazy word to through around the whole point of forums is to share thoughts and ideas, you're not meant to like them but if you do keep quite or make a well argued opposing point just shouting out 'troll' shows you don't have a sensible argument.

To back up my suggestion, a few years back Richard Skinner did mid mornings on XFM so why is the idea of Tarrant doing a Radio X show so absurd, don't forget he did Capital Breakfast in the 00s, so is moving onto Radio X daytimes in the 10s really that absurd an idea?

Radio 1 is ageist but Radio X isn't before people start being ageist and acuse Tarrant of being too old. Over 60s can still be good radio presenters you know.
