Coronation Street needs a massive change

And here is the idea.

A gas leak causes the whole street to blow to bits.

Only a few characters survive, including Ken who looks at his destroyed street and sighs "This is so frustrating"

The few survivors relocate to a brand new modernised Street. The show is simply renamed "Street", similar to how Emmerdale Farm was changed to just Emmerdale.

A bunch of new characters join and we will actually have locations like a garage, medical center, cafe, etc actually located away from the setting.

The current Coronation Street set is borderline ridiculous, it is like a mini town than a back street.

It is too late to do this as Corrie turns 55 in December, so I think this should happen during the 60th Anniversary.

Crap idea.

That takes away the essence the of what the show has been about. The only reason why Emmerdale got away with it was because the original concept and focus of Emmerdale wasn't around for a long time. Where as Corrie's concept and focus has. To take that away after 50 years would be criminal.

Indeed, and I wish Dino would take it to the Fanfiction section in the Games Room where it belongs.

No more ridiculously contrived explosion please.

But you raise a good point about everything being too centralized around the street and everybody working on the street they live

There's no need of a gas explosion. Renaming the show? No.

They should just gradually reduce the number of shops/businesses that are all located within a small area on the street then as KK said create a precinct away from the street.

Much like Brookside had the Close and then the parade. This could have been home to a medium-sized Frescho store, the bistro, the library as well as some other smaller shops and businesses. It would provide a new location that gives a sense of Weatherfield being bigger than the sum of 3 small backstreets. Since it would be part of the backlot, the production team could use it as they wished without having to worry about booking location filming.”

I completely agree with the quote comment from KK

To be honest...the change of producer has come at the right time...

Or maybe channel 4 or 5 should commission a new soap named THE Street / Close / Avenue using the same premise as Brookside when it started out, which is a gritty and realistic soap dealing with social issues in a dramatic yet heartfelt way and keeping true to character driven stories.

I don't think a gas explosion killing half the Street would be a good idea. What the OP is suggesting is a new soap altogether. My suggestion is just don't watch Corrie any more if you hate it that much
I agree that this belongs in the Games Room as it's FanFiction.

I don't think corrie needs big fires and deaths, it's needs some good storylines that will keep people interested, For example we could have an Ste/Brendan storyline with Ken Barlows grandson(Adam I think his name is) and Callum. Many people have said that he has a very camp side. That could be one interesting storyline, another one could be Dev could start dating a woman(Lisa) it's all going well for months, so Dev asks her to him, but that's when the problems start, Lisa expects Dev to buy her everything, Lisa has one plan in her mind, after they get married Lisa gets Dev to sign half of everything he has to her. Lisa is caught in bed with Kevin, Dev is heart broken and after the divorce goes through Dev is broke aswell, Lisa tells Dev she wants to sell her half of the shop, He knows he can't buy her out and he doesn't want to part own the shop with anyone else. So Dev makes the hard decision to put the shop up for sale. There are two interesting storylines more corrie storylines than blowing the street up
