Anyway, why do the other HMs have to constantly justify their nominations to Austin and the poisonous Jenna?

When he was shouting at Janice I found myself starting to cry. It was all projection. Jenna is the whore and bad mother. Austin is the one who should get a proper job. When I saw a clip of him crying with self-pity in the diary room I wanted to punch him. But when I listened to what he had to say about how much he envied his partner for having such a nice family it all made sense. I saw a flicker of self-recognition and the chance for redemption. He is a damaged soul that is for sure, but as James points out that is no excuse. He needs to grow up and think about people other than himself - he is a narcissist.

Apart from a few little snippets I've not watched this series - tonight was the first HL show I've seen, so I don't know all the history of what's gone on.
From what I saw tonight I'm absolutely astonished that Austin has any support at all, not that any of the others seemed particularly likeable either. I don't doubt that his emotions about his brother and mother are genuine, however wtf has that got to do with him being nominated and how is it an excuse for the way he ranted at Janice ? It seemed to me he knew he'd made a complete arse of himself so deliberately dug deep inside to dredge up his feelings about his family as his 'get out of jail' card to gain sympathy and get him out of a tight corner. I've never ever seen anyone sink so low over being nominated that they'd use such things to try and excuse their own monstrous behaviour. There is no excuse for what he said to Janice. I don't even particularly like her but I'll admit he was bang out of order for the dreadful things he said to her. He owes her a big apology & I wouldn't blame her if she chose not to accept it. Somebody mentioned in another thread that he may be projecting his issues with his mother onto Janice & lashing out at her as a result. Good point, I think. Still no excuse though. Those things he said were terribly hurtful. As you haven't watched much of this series though, I will say that he & Janice have had a few disagreements already so there's a build-up there - they don't like each other, and in last night's show, Austin was the only housemate not to get a letter from home because Janice failed a task. So there have been quite a few spats between those two. |

Austin hasn't always been this dark in the house. There have been lots of fun moments involving Austin & his bromance with James has been so sweet & the highlight of this series for me. The guy is gorgeous, funny, witty, sarcastic, intelligent, articulate - I have seen this Austin a lot over the course of the last three weeks. Unfortunately, he has also been involved in some blazing rows & the last few days in particular have been very bad.

I doubt I'll be watching any more though, so I'm afraid by opinion of Austin is low and unlikely to change. ![]() It was strange watching the show without caring anything for any of the HMs or knowing what had gone on over the weeks. The HL thread was an eyeopener; the battlelines have clearly been drawn, there was so much bias and spin for/against certain HMs that had little to do with how they were actually behaving in tonight's episode. As a non-biased onlooker it made be wince a bit, knowing I've posted like that myself in the past.
