Corrie - Realistically who should Kate Oates Axe when she takes over?
Who should Kate Oates realistically axe when she takes over as the new Corrie top boss.
I think ... Chesney Sinead All 4 of the Nazirs Gary windass & Izzy Sean Emily - time for her to bow out of the show. Maria & Luke Les Dennis Character & Todd (hasn't worked since being reintroduced) Bring in a new youngish 30 something family to replace the void left by these voids and a new mechanic to replace Luke/ Tommy Duckworth void for starters. Then build from there. |

They should be focusing on building up the older cast again rather than taking the spotlight off them even further. |

She won't axe Maria as Samia will be on maternity leave when she joins anyway.

Nobody. She should take stock of what she's got, work with the writers, production team and cast to see if characters can be improved from the state Blackburn has got them into, and take it from there.
Although if she did axe Sean, Des Lennis and Mary I'd be over the moon. |

Michael, Cathy, Sarah, Bethany, Callum, Erica, Todd and Faye. The others can all be made entertaining with new writers.

Anyone who expects her to ax more than a handful of characters is going to be disappointed. I think she will get rid of the Nazirs, maybe what remains of the Windasses/Armstrongs and Callum possibly, if he survives the live episode I could see him going or her turning him into Corrie's answer to Ross Barton.

Callum needs to die or be murdered maybe by Tony (with Todds help disposing of the body) following tomorrows live episode.
Decided Maria and Emily can stay from my original hitlist. But all the others must go. |

They also need to bring back Peter Barlow. I would also bring back Rula Lenska as Audrys friend who buys into Audreys as 50% joint owner.
I also would bring in Rusty Lee as a comedy character in Roys Rolls to replace Anna. Much like Kim Fox in EastEnders & cross between Phyilis) Rustys character is a bit of a maneater and after being taken in by Emily - she falls for Norris. Norris is mortified. |

Kate is the type of producer who would take ideas from forums and that never ends well.

Also Dev although some don't like him could easily fill the void left by Llyod and feature more in storylines with Steve and buy back into street cars. |

I don't think decisions as big as who to axe would be taken from forums. They have meetings and do strategic planning on what possible directions they can take a character.

What would be interesting and a soap first is if in the soap's next big disaster they let the fans vote on who dies. Maybe they will give us a choice of three characters and whoever out of those 3 gets the most votes will die.
DC comics tried this in 1988 with the "Death in the Family" story; one issue ended with Jason Todd's Robin having been beaten by the Joker and left in a warehouse rigged to explode. Readers were then given 2 numbers to call to either save the Boy Wonder or have him die and a 3 day window to vote. The vote was for Robin to die by 72-vote margin of 5,343 votes to 5,271. After they wrote and published the story it was supposedly discovered that ONE fan had set an auto-dialler to call the "Kill Robin" number every 90 seconds for at least 8 hours every day - at least 320 calls a day - and one DC writer dubbed them the unknown person who killed Jason Todd. They also got a huge negative backlash in the press. |

I don't know if they would.

Realistically the best I can hope for is Izzy, Alya, Chesney and Sinead but I'd like her to get rid of much more than that.
