When James and Austin were having a man to man after there argument james said he never voted for strategy reasons and then said 'i swear on my grandads life' austin then instantly accepted this..seemed a bit off key..why didn't he swear on his own life.
I bet his granddad is gutted that his grandson has just sworn his life away on a reality show argument about voting.

do you think this is ok even if you are telling the truth? have you ever sworn on someone else's life when telling a lie?

I don't go for all that swearing on your life rubbish TBH. I do know a lot of people who do and it's quite common (I think) to swear on your mothers/fathers/grandads life etc.

I kind of think - if my words not good enough I'm really not gonna do all that crap.

No, I don't do that. I'm not superstitious but I wouldn't take the risk. Lol

That gives me the heebie geebies (Sp? ) It feels too much like tempting fate for my liking. The same reason I would never make up something about a loved one as an excuse or to avoid something. I mean like saying I can't attend a function because XXX is ill or such like. Again tempting fate.

I know a lot of people that do, I don't despite not being superstitious.

Austin said "do you swear on.... life (didn't hear what he said)
James said that then.

So it's not like he said it randomly.

They could be swearing things on your life!

Seems weird to pick the thing you apparently love the most, his mum and dad & best friend are probably also peeved that they didn't get chosen.

I know, pesky idiots probably swearing on my precious life

To be fair on your second point, I have not heard anything about his mum and dad, don't know if they are still with him, but if they are, I don't think they are very close.

he has mentioned his granddad many times.

The minute i hear that phase i instantly disbelieve the person. To me its a big indicator the person is not telling the truth. Overcompensation for a lie is how i see it.

His Granddad's probably been dead for at least a decade so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Does he have a living grandfather, probably not, so then it doesn't apply. I hate when people do it on these reality shows and are clearly lying. Talk about tempting fate.

Would that be the same grandad who is the one who he is always talking about - comparing their relationship to Chloe/Janice?

It's just plain annoying when someone pulls the 'I swear on blah blahs life' - it's utter tripe and it actually leaves me less convinced of what they say. That kinda gobshite should've been left behind when you leave school.

Austin was convinced afterwards that he must definitely be telling the truth because he just swore on his granddads life. he kind of egged him on to say it.

On the plus side..it did shut up austin.

Interestingly, I see it as the opposite, the person gets away with making up BS and exaggerating so much throughout their lives, everyone takes it with a pinch of salt, so like the little boy who cried wolf - when they DO mean it, they're desperate to be believed.

That was my thought exactly when I heard him say it.

I think it was 'your' life Austin said.

James decided it best to switch it to his granddad instead, you know, just in case!

Why do your children think you'll be swayed by the life of James' Grandad?

He will have had more than one grandad so he might have been swearing down on the one that has already died
