Perhaps James has been using it a lot in there. The way Austin said it, he really didn't know what term to use other than he knew if James said it, it meant he was telling the truth. ( well so he believes )

I personally don't go in for it.

So it's not like he said it randomly.”

Didn't he say "swear on your sight" at first, then it moved on to "your Granddad's life"

I think the same too and your word should be enough.

Me too, the same as when someone is trying to convince you to do/believe something and they finish with "Trust me" ... clanging of alarm bells straight away.

Sadly, my ex did the same and he too was lying. As I said above, your word should be enough and I tend not to believe those that use those terms to convince you they are honest, as it is usually the opposite.

you're all very cynical aren't you!

we've heard James speak adoringly of his grandad many times.his letter from home was even from his grandad, so he is fully aware that his grandad is watching him.

the way I see it is he was being very honest to Austin and the only way he could convince him of his honesty was to swear on someone's life who Austin was already aware of as a massively important part of his life.

Its even worse if his grandad was watching, how would you feel if you saw your nearest and dearest swear on your life over voting to try and win a tv show.

I felt quite sad for Austin in that moment, it was like the penny was dropping that James may have been using him during the run, which is what some have thought on here. Using as in the sense to get airtime through overly touchy bromance.

calling everybody cynical sounds like an insult and very judgemental just because people dont share your point of view.

Austin asked him to swear on his grandad's life.

Calling people gullible is too isn't it?

We all judge really don't we? I feel there is an incredible amount of cynicism on here - there are HM's that really aren't nice people in there (that's why they've been included) - when they erupt people will bend over backwards to cite reasons for their behaviour or call 'bad editing' - IMO - it's much simpler than that. Some people aren't nice.

Thats shady..but then james went and done it like a mug. austin was satisfied afterwards, he knew what he just got him to do on national tv while his grandad is watching.

i never called anyone gullible, thank you!!
that would be just as bad in my eyes, but to be fair whoever said it said it in response to the cynicism remark which was levelled in the first place.
