Not sure what to make of this really . He might have just been mocking Johns half hearted attempt to gee the audience up , however he might also be mocking disabled people in any case not sure what I think about Lennon seeing as he also is a woman beater as well as someone who abandoned his child .

Reminds me of Kenny Everett's hilarious mocking of Michael Foot's disability. Lennon and Everett: both hugely talented, both drug users, both had a surreal sense of humour. Maybe they put something in the water on Merseyside, though I suspect it was something they put up their noses that was the problem.

Must be a slow news day as this footage has been out years, which means the people getting their knickers in a twist mustn't know anything about The Beatles as they'd have seen it before if they did.

He's clearly just having a bit of fun on stage, I always thought he was mocking the fact that Paul had to give the audience instructions on how to react to the song, like they couldn't think for themselves.

Not to say he didn't have a brutal sense of humour. The Beatles had times where disabled people were put infront of them thinking they'd be cured if they touched a Beatle, almost like they were Jesus. That's got to make you pretty resentful having that responsibility put on your shoulders.

This really isn't a story, but some will see the headline, and remember him for the headline alone.

It's very sad that the media have to drag things up like this, and make an issue out of it.

Most people who know anything about the Beatles will have seen this before, and not have given it much of a thought. It was a young bloke in the spotlight messing about.

Have you seen the little piggies
Crawling in the dirt?
And for all the little piggies
Life is getting worse
Always having dirt to play around in

Have you seen the bigger piggies
In their starched white shirts?
You will find the bigger piggies
Stirring up the dirt
Always have clean shirts to play around in

In their styes with all their backing
They don't care what goes on around
In their eyes there's something lacking
What they need's a damn good whacking

Everywhere there's lots of piggies
Living piggy lives
You can see them out for dinner
With their piggy wives
Clutching forks and knives to eat their bacon

this has come about after the chanel 4 programme 'it was alright in the (60's) (theyve done the 70's 80's and 90's is next). its a hilarious show showing how times have changed. some scenes are pretty motifying, extreme racism, homophobia and sexism were rife.

yes john was moking disabled, possibly downes, and although it wouldnt be acceptable today, 50 years ago no one thought anything of it.... these things should be seen from yesteryears perspective, not todays, things have changed.

In the early 70s I did some voluntary work in a place called the Spastic Centre, and most of the patients were a cracking bunch, but they didn't half take the mick out of each others disabilities.

It really annoys me when people get outraged online over things that happened in a different era, when they make no attempt to discover things were different then.

In 50 years time, many things that all these houlier than thou types do will be deemed unacceptable. it's how life moves on.

The Special Needs Hotel would have been a sitcom in the 70's

I remember reading an interview with Lennon about touring in the early days. Back then, they used to put the kids in wheelchairs at the very front (of the cinema etc). The stage lights illuminated just the first few feet of the crowd, and so from John's perpective, it seemed they were playing exclusively to disabled kids every night for weeks/months.

May have clouded his judgement, opinion . . .
