A turning point for Max Branning?
Tonight's court scenes were amazing. I think the whole of Max's characterisation was tonight summed up. It was brilliant.
Now it's been spelt out, could and should we see a new Max emerge? |

I agree its the first time I have come close to liking Max for a very very long time. I still think hes a one dimensional tosser sometimes but he could come back refreshed.

Jake Wood was fantastic tonight! His scenes were the absolute best.
I hope EE lets Max develop as a character when Jake returns from his break. |

Yeah, great writing tonight and great acting from Jake. Really puts Max's behaviour over the years in another light.

I enjoyed tonight. It was like they were showing Max to be a scared little boy who just wants to be loved, I also felt they showed a side to max which was touched on when he first came into the show in 2006, I don't think for a second max is a bad guy, but I also think he has an edge to him which is why he has lasted so long in the show. He is a modern day legend!

The next time he has sex with somebody you will all be calling him a disgusting pig and be wondering why women even like him
Regardless, I have always liked Max. His portion of the branning family were always great to watch. I genuinely would have liked Max and Tanya to end up together but it's a bit difficult when actors move on from the show. |

I am hoping he will get the help he needs while he is away (Max, that is, not Jake!!) and comes back a better, stronger person.
Jake was brilliant in the Court scenes, his tears seemed so real. Go NuMax!! |

Great performance from Jake. One of the most realistic crying scenes I've seen in a soap.

I was just about to say the same thing. One thing that I love about eastenders is when they dwelve into a character and it's just brilliant..

I'm not a fan of either Max or Jake at all, both were much better than usual tonight. Max bordered on likeable, something I've never found him to be before.

I completely agree. Marcus summed up Max in a way I don't think anyone else has before. There was never really any reason to feel sympathy for him or try to understand him but when Marcus put all the pieces together it really made me feel for him and understand why he's the way he is. Brilliantly acted by Jake Wood tonight.

Max is a saint compared to most on the square.
Yes he cheats but we now understand the psychological reasons for that - and just who is not a cheat on the square anyway (apart from Mick and Linda)? He is not a violent scumbag thug (the Philth), a murderer (Ronnie, Lady Gaga) or a rapist (Dean) and his heart is always in the right place deep down. He has not covered up murders or bullied people either. He deeply loves his daughters and is prepared to spend life in prison to protect them. TPTB will never allow it but I want him to get revenge on Mitchell and then become a very successful man. I am with him 100%. |

Max shouldn't ever forgive Abi for what she did. He should just "say screw all of you" in the end. The only family member he should have time for is Oscar. Even Tanya didn't come through for him. Because despite their rocky marriage, I genuinely don't think she hates him. They had that long conversation during the live week and all that. So much for that.
Jack, Suzy or April couldn't be arsed to support him. Carol and Lauren turned on him for no apparent reason. DTC has turned him into the single most sympathetic character (perhaps next to Shabnam) on the Square. |
