Apologies if this has already been mentioned - haven't read the whole thread - but have you checked if Wifi Assist is switched on? If so, you could be gobbling up more data than usual and it might be a good idea to switch it off. To check: Settings>Mobile Data>scroll to the very bottom of the page (beyond the apps).

These days we are crunching through more data than ever. I'm not even a heavy user. Bit of YouTube at lunchtime, catch up with the news, bit of traffic and about 4GB of tethering a month for my tablet, yet I am still at 20GB a month mobile data. As to using Wi-Fi, why should we need to use potentially unsecure networks? At home, yes, but not out and about.

To be a good citizen and alleviate the load on the limited cellular capacity. If you are paranoid about public wifi there are always ways and means of being secure (VPN etc.)

If you are watching youtube, news and traffic - why the worry about secure networks at all?

Apple Music kills your data so I went back to Spotify and use half the data

I use these services away from any wifi. I honestly hardly use the phone as it is - I'm not a heavy user.
