Is Blackburn about to pull a "Carl King" shock death on Corrie?

Killing Carl King on Emmerdale was a massive shock for viewers.

I'm worried Blackburn has decided to kill a main character like David Platt tonight in order to get some real shock value impact to make up for the storyline/show being weaker.

Stephen Mulhern allegedly said the start of tonight's episode is the most explosive in soap he's ever seen and that viewers won't believe what happens. This could all be hyperbole but other snippets such as Paula Lane (Kylie) saying the show moves into dark territory it hasn't entered before, pushing boundaries, etc... The way things are going I'm starting to seriously think a major character (that isn't Callum) will die in tonight's episode and it will have been kept under wraps.

What if Callum makes Kylie choose whether he kills David or Max or something awful?

Newspapers have reported the episode ends on an industrial estate a "quarter of a mile" from the set with a stunt.

Obviously Twitter/this forum would go into meltdown but it would ultimately be a cheap shot at getting everyone talking about the show at the expense of great scripting and character-led drama.

I'll give ITV PR this though, the whole Blackburn-exit and press stories have drummed up a bit of hype out of nothing, overall the episode will need to be flawless and exciting (and not solely rely on shock value death) to live up to it all.

Concerning!

I doubt there'll be any real shocks. It will end in Callum's death. That'll be about it. No shock there.

They won't kill off David or Sarah, if this was the case it would have been revealed in advance either actor was leaving.

As my OP discusses, Carl King died in Emmerdale's live episode and it had not been announced Tom Lister was leaving.

Stuart Blackburn has done it before and could do it again.

I know, but I still doubt a prominent character like David would have his death kept under wraps. Corrie tend to get kill off characters that have already been announced to leave, or recurring ones or villains that we knew weren't going to stick around long.

But we'll wait and see.

Carl King had been in Emmerdale for nearly 9 years when he was killed off without any prior announcement the actor was even leaving.

Speaking of Callum's fate I think he will get an ambiguous exit. He will be presumably killed, but later disappear leaving the Platts to worry if one day he will turn up.

I know, but I still doubt Corrie will do it. David will be the future "oldies" character similar to Ken, Emily and Rita.

Of course if it does happen I will take back what I said, but I can see this not ending well for Callum. He is the villain of the story and David the "good guy".

I've seen FMs refer to cast lists for future episodes, though I've no idea how they do that - nor am I asking to know.

Could not one of those who can do this put in a spoiler who's going to be in next week?

I could see them killing off David or Kylie for shock value.

I get the feeling Stuart Blackburn doesn't give a shit about upsetting the audience with a total shock (i.e. killing off David) because the amount of press coverage/buzz it would get would make him seem like a bold/brave producer.

I agree David should be a future oldie of the show but I would not be that shocked given the Carl King stuff if he dies tonight and following the episode, tributes to him/the character come in and an interview with him saying the whole crew had to keep it secret but he's "chuffed with his exit after 15 years on the show"...

Mind in overdrive. I agree with you though I hope it's Callum dying, as predictable as that is I'd prefer it to crown jewels being killed off for shock factor, to help ensure a criticised producer is remembered.

I very much doubt David or Kylie, but I could see it being Bethany or Sarah Lou, who are far more expendable characters. It would still be shocking but SB did say tonight's events will have ripples on their lives 'for years to come'.

I know they never announced Carl's exit but pretty much everyone had guessed that he would be the one to die. It was hardly a shock.

Sean Ward's exit hasn't been announced either but it won't be a shock if Callum dies.

Maybe he wants to one-up that. This is definitely his last shot at producing a soap, after all.

Carl King's death wasn't a shock as such. It was announced quite a while before that episode that someone would die and SB made Carl so horrible the last couple of months it was predicted by a lot of people he would be the person to die. I agree he was a big character though and didn't want him to be killed off.

I think he will end up under the garage killed by Tony and shoved down the drain they keep talking about.

I have mentioned it a couple of time on here but have not heard anyone else think the same and it seems really obvious to me. Of course I may very well be wrong.

This would be most likely due to the mentions of the manhole.

That's true but in Corrie's case nobody except Callum has been portrayed as 'got it coming', which is why anyone other than him would be a huge shock.

Soaps follow patterns and that pattern is leading to Callum being killed. If there's a big twist where he doesn't die and it's someone else, then i will be genuinely shocked. Given how this storyline has played out, i don't think Corrie and ITV could get away with killing David or Kylie.

However, it would be something if Sarah died. Sacrificing herself for her daughter and family and ensuring that Callum does go down.
