All I had to do was watch the training videos and, since I have years of dance training behind me and was once a dance teacher - I can tell what ability someone has, very quickly.
Ahh, one of those. Has it never crossed your mind that the ~2 minutes of training footage of each couple we've seen so far isn't indicative of their ~3 weeks training time?

Judy and Widdy made Blackpool because thy were both 'comedy turns' in the end. -as did Dave, even though he himself thought it was wrong. Judy was also a very nice woman. Carol simply does not have their distinct personalities, nor is she funny.

No one is telling you who to back. That's up to you *shrugs*
Judy was hardly comedy like Widdy and Dave. She was trying but she was just useless; it was her warm personality and likely the Scottish vote that helped her to Blackpool. Each to their own but I think Carol too has a warm personality and is very funny, and that this will go in her favour.

I guess time will tell though.

Agreed.

And I do like Pasha.

I also like him but he has been one of the luckiest pros on this show ( if not THE luckiest) as far as celebrities partners go.

It will be refreshing for me to see his dynamic with someone who is not THAT good.

Not with Carol, no.

I think this will be a test of Pasha. I will be interested in how he handles someone with less ability. Could go either way. Partnership could be warm, humorous, self deprecating and captivating, but suspect it might just end up being dull and forgettable.

and the Pasha fanbase, wouldn't they vote to keep him in?

They didn't when he partnered Rachel on the show.

Another thing is that Carol has Pasha as a pro, not someone like Anton (or in Dave's case Karen). No way that Pasha is going for the intentional comedy routines (yeah, Rachel was purely unintentional ).

Pasha doesn't have a back-up plan (going for slapstick or making great scenes toward the judges).

I'm sure that Pasha will have a back up plan Sherlock.

Totally agree. I'm not expecting to be amused by the partnership. 3 minutes of her excuses, girlishness and terrible body posture just makes me want to switch off.

I am not a rampant Pasha fan like some (I much preferred Artem), but as an ex dance teacher the thought of teaching someone like her would make my heart sink, which is why I do feel for the boy!

Totally agree. He will try and take it seriously. Any comedy will be unintentional, although I suspect it won't be comedy but neurosis.

That's twice you've called Carol neurotic in this thread. How modest of you to hitherto conceal your expertise in psychiatry to add to your distinctions in dance and media

Goodness Sofakat I would more feel for anyone you would have thought was like Carol and would have gone to to be taught by you if that's your attitude. Not everyone who would like to learn to dance is a natural dancer or a perfect student. As you said in another post, it is a test of the teacher's abilities if they have to teach someone with less capability for dancing as others. A good teacher should have patience.

I'm sure Pasha has a back up plan if that's what you'd call it, but I suspect it won't be to go for the comedy vote. When he danced with Chelsee, he said one of her biggest concerns was looking 'daft' but he told her he would never let a partner look silly which I'm sure his partners appreciate. As much as I like Anton, sometimes I think he resorts to the slapstick too soon with them and I hope this won't happen with Katie. In Karen's case she went down this route with Mark Wright a couple of times when she probably shouldn't have. That Superman Paso was played more for laughs than anything else and in my opinion it was a shame because, by that point, he was a better dancer than that routine allowed him to be.

I do hope she stops wittering and making terrible remarks to Pasha during training which must fill him with exasperation and despair.
I'm mostly neutral about Carol - she seems pleasant enough. I find her a mild irritant on Breakfast though, and 'witterer' sums her up. Banal chatter from weather reporters is a pet hate at any time of day, but when I'm especially grumpy in the morning.... Just, no.

I'll give her the benefit of the doubt for now and assume it's her nerves on the first day of training that made me want to slap her and tell her to shut up and listen - but if it carries on I can see my 'irritation' getting completely out of hand .

I am interested to see how Pasha handles things though. This is new territory on the show for him (and about blinking time). In his shoes I'd be praying for a half decent waltz, a not too cringy Latin and a dignified but early exit.

I think probably not - they may get to Blackpool depending on the strength of their support/fanbase but from early snippets/reports then Carol isn't going to be in danger of being in the top half of the leaderboard.

Psychology actually, with a focus on abnormal personality disorders.. Sorry to burst your bubble, but some of us are capable of doing many things in our lives, and our careers.

I assume you know the difference between the two?

You've picked up on the same things as me. I don't actively dislike her - I have no reason to - but I don't want to listen to her. I think he was chosen for her because he has quite an easy personality and is happy in himself.

I can imagine the discussions in the production office about who the hell they'd choose to 'handle' Carol though. Perhaps they thought it was time Anton had a break from batty women.

Oh dear, oh dear.

There is a world of difference between being a performer and teacher in the real dance world, to teaching a celebrity how to dance adequately for a television show watched by the masses on a Saturday night.

And since it would appear you do not know anything about the world of serious dance (as your comments rather prove) you are hardly in a position to decide what kind of teacher I was. You do even know what kind of dance I taught!

Believe me, we did NOT have to work with the Carols of this world! Ever.
