Did Channel 5 make a mistake renewing Big Brother until 2018?
My take on it is that yes, ratings might be relatively low. But there is Demand 5 and other options to catch up, some people who don't watch the show even like to check up on it from social media. I think this was a great decision and in my opinion, Big Brother does entertain my summer, something good to watch too and have debates about whether it may frustrate you or not! You still have those people who dream of being a housemate too. So no, I disagree that Channel 5 made a mistake renewing the show.
What do you all think? |

Yes it was a mistake ratings will only continue to fall as endemol search for the most unlikeable people in the country to enter the house.
The problem the show now has is so many ex-viewers have simply given up because they don't like the constant fighting and arguing and if they try for something more lighthearted and fun the remaining viewers won't watch, so they are stuck with the arguing until BB is axed (probably in 2017). C5 should have rested it for a year and then brought it back. |

If they wanted to use the compound for year, they could have experimented |

Seeing the ratings for BB16 and CBB16 I'd say Channel 5 have made a MASSIVE mistake committing to Big Brother until 2018, I mean that's what another 3 regular and 6 celebrity SERIES before the contract expires, I dread to think what the housemates and ratings will be like next year let alone in 2018.

Unless they make dramatic changes to the show, then yes, it was a massive mistake. As it is at the moment, i would go as far as to say that they made a mistake picking it up from Channel 4 in the first place. They have turned the show into a complete mess.

It's still one of C5's biggest shows, provides plenty of TV hours and something they exploit a lot more commercially (e.g. product placement) then their other shows.

It's also their most expensive show, and with ratings fallen with every series, they won't be able to afford it at this rate.

summer and civilian yes, the last few january cbb's have actually grown in numbers 2013-2.8 million 2014- 3.07 million 2015-3.1 million
CBB: 5 January 2016 - 4 February 2016 BB: 1 March 2016 - 13 May 2016 That schedule would mean that Big Brother in 2016 would be over by the time Euro 2016 and the Olympics start, both would be major ratings killers for BB & CBB. Also agree with dropping the Summer CBB and BOTS. |

Hopefully this is a watershed moment for the show
The channel may have American owners but the majority of the viewers dint want low grade American trash filling up the show, it's not required and there is no need for it. Stop ridiculous themes However they want the viewers who warch such trash like next top model and drag race on board so I can't see that changing. Keep the January celeb Bb always been a great slot to beat post Xmas blues, the ratings suggest so too Do away with the second celeb Bb in the year not needed and put regualr bb back to its proper slot and length. Stop pandering to the Twitter, Facebook brigade who want fights and arguments |
