EE: Is Nigel on his way back?
With Paul Bradley having left Holby City and his exit having been kept secret until it aired, could Nigel be on his way back to Walford? Them hiding his exit could have been to cover up why he was still at Elstree if anyone spotted him and with Charlie gone then it's give Dot someone else to interact with as he was practically a son to her.

I can't see how Nigel would fit into the show today.

I hope so. He'd be great to have back, I think. Now he's older, more experienced he could be a great addition.

Holby city are quite renowned for keeping exits under wraps - Hari Dhillon, Sarah Jane Potts, Joseph Milson, James abderson, Jing Lui, Emma catherwood, Robert Powell have all only been announced the evening the episode aired and several others like Michael Thomson have only been confirmed a week or so beforehand because it has leaked. So, i really wouldn't read too much into that.
I'd be quite surprised if Bradley wanted to go straight from 10 years in one long running serial straight into another one. Also, much as i liked Nigel, I struggles to see where he would fit in now. |

Nigel Bates. He was an old school friend of Grants who lodged with Dot in the early 90s. He had a romance with Debbie, a divorcee with a young child (Clare) who he married but she was killed in a car accident. He then fell in love with lorraine wicks but she didn't feel the same way and finally he married again to another divorcee with a son (same age as clare) and they all moved away. He was a bit bumbling and sartorially challenged but he was a lovely guy. One of the few t ever stand up to Nick Cotton and win and also that could calm Grant down when he was in a temper. |

Let's hope he brings SClub7 with him if he does come back
![]() I'm with Kitkat, I reckon he will want to do other things rather than being tied down to another continuing drama. I did love Nigel though! |

I didn't like the way he was represented when Clare returned. IIRC, she basically said that he just couldn't cope when she started wanting boyfriends, believed some nasty gossip about her and got disappointed in her and basically washed his hands of her, ignoring her and giving all his attention to his wife. She then started running amok.
None of which sounded like Nigel who adored that girl. Of course that was just her version but why did she change so much? I mean aside from them just wanting Claire Devine in the show, uncaring that clare Bates was actually a very different kind of girl. |

Thanks
The daughter, was the same age as Sonia and Martin and went to school with them. She turned up about 7 years ago for a few months, having turned into a complete and utter bitch. She was played by Gemma Bissix (both as a child and adult) who was Clare in Hollyoaks, if you watch that. |

He was a gift of a character, while he was a joker he had a good heart to match.

![]() I'm with Kitkat, I reckon he will want to do other things rather than being tied down to another continuing drama. I did love Nigel though! It seems to have been bradley's choice to leave Holby and they'd gladly have him back. He always gave every impression of loving it at Holby and being the second longest serving member of cast probably had quite a few perks in terms of dressing rooms, being allowed sabbatical, some input into characterisation and scripts. So, I'd say he has chosen to leave because he either wants to spend more time on his music, shorter term, one off projects like stage work or sit coms (he was on Red Dwarf too pre EE if you recall) or just more time at home - he is about 60 after all. Unless he has been offered an unbelievably good storyline, i can't see him returning to EE. It is not the same as Michael French who did it specifically because of Pat dying and then writing out Janine and Carol's Cancer. Plus, arguably, there was still a lot of mileage in David, not so sure about Nigel. I'm not really sure what they could do with him except have him play second fiddle to the Mitchell's as Phil and Sharon's friend and support to Dot. So, really, just the same thing he was doing 20 years ago when he decided to leave. |

I wouldn't mind a guest stint, returning to see Dot for a bit.
The scene where he tells Claire about the car crash, viewed from the car was so sad. |

Paul Bradley is brilliant and Holby is Holby because of Elliott. I had a little sob at his exit last night

No. Clare Bates has moved on and his best mate Grant isn't around. Dot (or Mrs C as he called her) is about the only person he's close to is still there.
