Why are there no artists like Mariah Carey, Whitney, Celine Dion these days?

Geri's not releasing her full album until Spring 2016... don't worry. It's coming.

It had its day and people realised how dull it was.

Plenty of fantastic female artists out there without the need for bland, watered Dow. R&B lite warbling

For the majority of Mariah's career, she's not been releasing the power ballads she's known for. From Butterfly on, she'd been very RnB/hip hop. Her last album was great.

Agreed, I love the album (not so much the title lol). She still releases great music IMO, it's just largely unprompted or ignored.

Yeah, because Geri Halliwell is the same kind of artist as Mariah, Whitney and Celine

Not very loudly though, it's more a whisper.

Well she's having to shout up from way at the bottom of the charts.

Whitney, Mariah etc are fantastic, however the type of ballad music they were doing would not work today. Both Whitney and Mariah realised that as well, which is why both started drifting towards Rnb in the later years of their careers in order to try and stay more current. Mariah's last album was still fantastic, but she's achieved in her career pretty much all there is to achieve so she is now at the stage where she can release the type of music she wants to release and not have loads of pressure on her.

Still plenty of them on the X Factor from what I've seen of it channel surfing (and I don't really watch it)

Maybe they have set the bar so high that any wannabees' attempt to enter the genre is futile.

The public's taste for "divas" diminished in favour of cheap house and "lol" music.

Has this 'gap' not been filled by male artists like Sam Smith, John Legend, John Newman, Hozier etc.....?

Female solo singers are as popular as ever and much more popular than most of those men (Adele, Taylor Swift, Rhianna, Beyonce, Lana del Rey, Sia, etc). It's just that the belters' style of warbling (all that 'melisma' as it's called) now sounds so naff and dated... you only hear it now in X Factor auditions!
