CS: "real time" live episodes
So it seemed like last night's live ep was not only "real time" (a la "24"), but the events were set in the same hour as transmission (as evidenced by the clock in Roy's flat at one point, I think I spotted). I *think* the same was true of the 2010 post-tram crash episode - although I'm not sure in that case how the clock hour corresponded. Yet 2000's "cobbles" live episode was a "day in the life" one like a standard recorded ep, cunningly using the darkness of the exterior set at the beginning and end only, to simulate the (December) early morning and late night respectively.
So do we think Corrie's powers that be now prefer the "actual time" type of live episode, maybe because it seems more "live" and viewers grasp the concept more (don't laugh but I remember people being confused by the one in 2000, pointing out clocks that were "wrong", even though Audrey was clearly at "lunch" with Prince Charles at one point)? Do people here have any preferences? I quite liked the "day in the life" style of 2000 simply because they had to be more inventive with the exterior filming - although obviously it restricted the bulk of the episode to the studio. Having said that, I thought they did an excellent job last night. |

Seriously? Over 300 views and not a single Corrie fan who has an opinion on this?

Creatively I think the 2000 way of handling the time was impressive, however perhaps the stakes seem higher dramatically when it is played out in real time. Viewers like live because it is happening right now so perhaps the drama should be set in the now too.

That's the thing with forums. Some threads generate a lot of interest, some very little. People will comment on what they want to comment on. I once started a thread relating to Home & Away and only one person commented - and what they said was nothing to do with what I started the thread about! Was I bothered? No I wasn't. It really is no big deal.
