I wonder?

I've seen many posts in which people link to old clips from YouTube and, indeed, I often watch favourite dances myself. I would certainly enjoy watching repeats or compilations of "best bits" (cue arguments about what constitutes a best bit) on the television. Why doesn't the BBC show us some repeats? Does anyone know?

Probably music rights.
They are very strictly controlled (no pun intended)

The clips on the BBC website are probably OK to use for a lengthy period after broadcast, but they would have to get another license to allow the clip to be shown after the original licence expires.

If you go on the BBC Strictly site and scroll through the Galleries section they have some clips from previous series. I don't think they go very far back though.

I know a way to order entire seasons (and for the older ones, ITT is included). If you're interested, send me a DM (private message here) because I don't think I should put the source information, prices, etc., here.

I think the reason the series are not repeated is to do with Royalties they would have to pay all those involved.

As they're are the recipients of the license fee, there are limits on how many repeats the BBC are allowed to show, and also what time they're allowed to show them. As a result, they'd probably struggle to find space in the schedule to repeat previous series.

Although I'm sure they repeated one series on BBC 3, years ago. Maybe the viewing figures didn't justify showing any more?

Yes, of course!

It really irks me that Strictly isn't shown in the US even though we have a network channel "BBC America." Which is pretty bad. They'll pick one show - like Gordon Ramsay - and show 6 episodes a day - then move on to another one they play to death.

I saw an old series a couple of years ago on holiday in Malta. Such a difference between now and then, no faffing, no props, just pure dancing.

I wish it would go back to the straightforward format.

The show has more razmatazz now, thats why the public like it so much.

I completely agree with you. I'd been a fan since series 2, but the last series I watched properly was Kara and Artem's year (2010). Since then, I have it on in the background but don't sit down and avidly watch it. I hate all the props, the inappropriate music, the "comedy" VTs - but at least Bruce is gone so I no longer have to endure his bad jokes and inability to read the autocue.

I also wish it would go back to the straightforward format, but it'll never happen, sadly.

Moira Ross did introduce quite a few changes in 2010, some of which went away from the straightforward format.
But they had better guest performers that series and no dance-off, but it still worked well. I think part of the reason was that she didn't try to control everything so much but was confident to let things happen and manage it as it happened.

If Moira Ross was Producer again, I think we would see a Strictly that I would prefer - more like the old days.

You would think a series DVD would be a brilliant money spinner for the BBC wouldn't you? Profitable enough, one would think, to pay the royalties and music rights etc.

Being such a big fan I would happily buy a DVD of the complete series every year. I am sure I am not the only one.

I thought they used to offer a "Best of" series DVD a few years ago which was advertised. Looking at EBay there are lots of copies for sale for series 6 there.

So I guess there was not enough profit in it for the Beeb to carry on in which case.

There was a Dvd one year, Tom Chambers year.
It had the whole of the final and clips from each week, and a second disk of pro dances and group dances.
Have a look out for it.

I saw one for sale on Amazon which had the judges fav clips and some memorable dances but the reviews were awful - too much talking from the judges not enough dancing.

I'd prefer to have her rather than the current shower we have at the moment. At least she gave back the power to us guys and enabled scd to move onto the next era as if it were.

I'm glad I remembered to check in here. JohnStannard -- look at the top of your screen when you first come to Digital Spy, towards the top, and you'll see something like this, except instead of Elsa it'll say your name.
After "Private Messages, there should now be the number 1 instead of zero. Click on that 1:

If anybody else wants to buy any of the old series, I know where you can get dvd collections of all of them (and the older ones include It Takes Two). Send me a private message for details

oops - I think you click on the words "Private Messages" which is in blue font - IF there's a number after "Unread" (meaning you have a message sent to you by someone on here that they want you to read)

Please please please impose these limits on "Dad's Army" - which is shown just about every other week someplace, somewhere. Would rather have repeats of Strictly wihout the soundtrack, like old fashioned silent movies. Then you could dub your own words to Brucie's "jokes" and Craig's put downs

I also wish we could buy DVDs of previous series. I'd like to see the whole series but just of the dance and the comments without any training VTs. I'd have thought they would be popular.
