I think you have hit the nail on the head. It isn't THEM who are fake, it is him. Chloe is a mess but I don't think she is fake.

If that is true, being with a boyfriend who doesn't love her fully will only make the messed up part of her worse.

I do actually like Chloe, if anything I would like to see her do it again without him!
