Anyone here with Win VistaXP and itunes?
You might have a surprise if you try to update your itunes, it will tell you it cant be installed unless you have win 7 or higher!!!
![]() ![]() ![]() I only really use it for backing up my iphone because its much quicker than doing it via wifi/icloud, but now it looks like ive either got to get windows 7(which i wouldnt on this laptop as its abit old now) or just do it via icloud which will take ages! im not buying a new computer just so i can have the latest version of itunes!!!!! How much is Bill Gates paying Apple do we think? answers on a postcard.

Sorry to hear that.
Can you still get away with using the old, Vista-comptible iTunes version for backing up your iPhone? If yes then continue as you are but if not then I'd suggest checking the links out here: https://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=e...87.udA0pZrxEOk Good luck! |

Just install WIndows 7. Any PC which can run Vista can run 7, and pretty much anything in the last ten and a bit years currently running XP can too provided they have at least 1GB of RAM (which could be picked up on eBay for next to nothing).
Windows 7 could be expensive for an old computer, but depending on how you look at it, it can be just seen as a necessary update to keep it running, which can therefore justify viewing it as a mandatory update which could be obtained from a third-party source. Please note that I do not condone software piracy. |

The laptop is around 6-7 years old at a guess, has 2gb ram but can't remember the processor speed off the top of my head, it's a dual core I know that. Probably will run win 7 but we have vista starter so it's the slimmed down version, is there a slimmed down version of win 7 too? If not might be worth trying it out anyway. Are we going to have any issues with drivers etc or is it a case of just install it and then Windows will do the rest/ update drivers?
Also is it like an upgrade where everything on the computer like documents/pictures, music, programmes are still there but the OS is updated? Like they do on mobile phones? Or would I have to get some kind of external hard drive and move everything off it then put it back on manually? Thanks P.s I do realise this has turned into a Windows/pc question, sorry about that! |

You can do an in-place upgrade from Vista to 7, but you should always have a backup of your documents just in case. |

Oh brilliant, yeah it's just a Acer laptop which is 6-7 years old, so I guess there won't be anything unusual about the hardware to update.
Thanks for the tips guys |

You don't need the latest version of iTunes, you can keep running with the version you have right now I'm sure. The new iTunes will have some small bug fixes etc, probably related more to Windows 10 than anything else.
If you are able to afford using iPhone, you can probably afford to get a new computer with a more modern OS, they start from as low as £140 for a full computer: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/comput...150925060828:s |
