Why does everyone keep insisting he murdered Katie? He pushed her over, he couldn't possibly have known the floor would give way. There was no intent to kill her whatsoever. Clearly he wanted to scare her, maybe hurt her a little, but it couldn't have been made clearer that he didn't deliberately kill her. Obviously he didn't get her help afterwards but that doesn't make it murder. Am I missing something? Could anyone with some legal knowledge clarify? I'm utterly baffled.

You're right it wasn't murder but, he will have a hard time proving that since he and Katie were in the middle of a feud and now everyone knows he was trying to hid the fact that he was on the DL. So it makes sense that everyone think's he murdered her.

I meant everyone on DS, not the characters. Apologies for lack of clarity. I can understand the characters thinking he did it deliberately and disbelieving him after everything he's done, but we saw that he didn't do it deliberately.

He physically picked her up and threw her - the floor gave way and she fell to her death.

His actions caused her death regardless of whether it was his intention.
Technically - it would be manslaughter - but people don't talk in that kind of jargon - people just say "murder" as a term of vocalising something.

Ok, I got you. I don't think it was murder, but Robert is an attempted murder, he tried to kill Paddy twice, and hired a hit man to kill Chas.

Manslaughter's not an obscure word, though? I mean surely everyone knows what that means. I guess it makes sense for "murder" to be used as a sort of shorthand, though.

True, there was definitely no ambiguity there.

Do you think he would have let her get out of their alive and ruin his life?
When she was about to leave he became physically aggressive. If he had not become agressive she would not have died. Remember what he said to her after burning the caravan? If she didn't back off he'd do more than that the next time. Technically not an actual murderer but morally no better than one..

Fair point, he might well have gone on to deliberately kill her. Obviously he's gone on to become a multiple attempted murderer so like you say, morally no better. He probably would have murdered her given the chance, I guess he accidentally denied himself the chance.

I wasn't defending him for a second and kinda resent the suggestion... What's wrong with wanting to be accurate?

I hope he survives and sticks around.

It's essentially manslaughter. Much like when Belle pushed Gemma over. She never meant for Gemma to hit her head and die hours later. But what doesn't help Robert was that he, along with Aaron, messed with the crime scene.

It's manslaughter, and if they'd called the ambulance service/police straight away, then people might have had more sympathy with them, but having then messed with the scene, removed Katie's phone and both lied through their teeth for months, both Robert and Aaron are now guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice....
