Sorry if this has been covered in other threads but i cant seem to find any.

I have had Sky for over a year now and during that time i have only been to access the traditional teletex on any channel once.

When i press Tv and then text all i get is a blank screen. I tried ringing Sky about this problem but they said all channel text services where being withdrawn, but seeing teletext numbers still advertised on screen i dont think this is the case.

i no a few channels have interactive text services but they are very slow. Any input on why i cannot get this service would be appreciated.

because most channels have pulled it!! the only channels i know of that still use traditional Teletext is the Emap music channel (the box, smash hits etc.)

if you try to access ceefax on BBC1, you'll see a message along that line

Have you tried resetting your box? Sky boxes occasionally 'forget' about the analogue text, but a reset sorts it out.

Its a known problem on Grundig/Thomson digiboxes, (thomson took over making them from Grundig), there are other threads about it here too, its seems as the box get older that the text drops off and after a full re-boot it reappears for a few days and then drops off again until the next re-boot.

The BBC don't broadcast Ceefax via satellite - you have to accept their digital interactive service instead, or switch back to analogue (

CNN still have their analogue text service broadcast on Sky.

As do RTE / TG4 and TV3 in Ireland, they don't have any digital text services yet.

Same happened with my Grundig not showing the Teletext a few weeks ago. I've had it on continuously for a couple of weeks now, and the Teletext is still showing. Silly box.

hell, I know what's what, and even I'm confused at this discussion.

Therefore, can I just clear something up.

Teletext and Cefax from the old days is not available on satellite.

On sky, only digital text is available on the usual channels, whether it be BBCi, or any other form of digital text service such as those on the sky branded channels.
very few channels still carry analogue text on digital satellite channels!!

if your DIGITAL text services are not working - ie you are getting no response, your remote is not doing anything with the text button - you may need to reboot your digibox at the main power point (but I thougt this problem was fixed long ago?)

Don't these 2 statements contradict each other? To be technical about it, the Sky Digibox has no analogue text decoding abilities. It merely processes any text stream provided on a digital channel and re-inserts it in the VBI. It is then up to the TV to decode this and display it as teletext. To quote some examples, an analogue teletext service is available on British Eurosport/British Eurosport 2 and a digital text service is available on all BBC stations, although to confuse matters slightly, all the BBC channels also carry subtitles on page 888 on analogue text as well as a page 100 explaining the digital text facilities too. Hope that hasn't confused people too much

Have you tried turning it off, then turning it on, as others have suggested?

Unplug your box for a few seconds, plug it back in, go to a channel which you know has analogue teletext (Kerrang for example) and press TV then text.

Does that work?

At the moment on Sky's channels analogue text is available but only Horse Racing and Bookmakers information. All other text services are now carried either by Digital Sky Text via the "text" button or in the case of Sky News, the above plus Sky News Active.

Not if you regard Teletext and Cefax as text brands

I do regard Ceefax as a brand, but not Teletext, even though it is the name of the ITV/Channel 4/Channel 5 teletext franchise owner. It's worth noting by the way that whilst almost all of Ceefax (the analogue teletext service) has gone on digital satellite, a reduced Ceefax service is available on BBC1 London and BBC2 England which includes most, if not all, of the 600 pages and some of the backup information too (cookery pages and so on).

As of 12:14 today [May 2, 2005] there have been NO teletext services on any of the Irish terrestrial channels through Sky... <<At least on both my Digibox & Sky+>>

They were working this morning as when I pushed the text button this afternoon, I got the Title page of AERTEL with the clock stopped at 12:14 - the time was actually 13:33.

Can anyone else confirm this??

Is there a point in rebooting the boxes - would both Sky+ and the Digibox lose text services at the same time if it weren't a fault elsewhere?

Just checked through my Skystar 2 now - RTÉ One and RTÉ Two both have fully functioning text services at the moment with the correct time (17:04) shown on both.
