Opera ditching Silverlight support - what about watching Sky Extra?
I use both Opera and Sky, and must say for whatever reason (these things aren’t always clear) I prefer Opera (and don’t like Chrome at all – for some reason they Google tries to insinuate itself into your life at every turn, though my browser preference obviously has nothing to do with the respective performance and features of the different browsers. It’s a bit like voting for a candidate because ‘he’s got a nice smile’. Anyhow…)
I watch Sky on Sky Extra, almost always on Opera, but recently I’ve been getting a message saying that soon Opera will no longer be supporting Silverlight, which you need to watch Sky (and one or two other things). I’ve heard about the security concerns with Flash and why that might soon no longer be supported by some browsers. Is the same issue to do with Silverlight? And what about those Opera lovers watching Sky – will they have to go to Firefox or some other brower? One reason I prefer to watch Sky on Opera rather than Firefox is that almost always when I launch Firefox, I am told I have to activate Silverlight. Why? I would have thought once it as been activated for an iteration of Firefox, that should be it. I don’t get that with Opera. NB You can’t yet watch Sky on the Microsoft browser which comes with Windows 10. |

In Firefox goto Tools>Add-Ons manager>Plugins under the Silverlight add on there's an option to 'ask to activate' or 'always activate'
That should sort the problem. |

Internet Explorer is still in Windows 10, so that is an option.

Doesn't work. I briefly installed Windows 10 on a PC on which I could watch Sky Go (with Sky Go Extra you can register up to four machines) and launched the new Explorer (it's not called IE anymore) and it didn't work. It's not yet supported.
"This website needs Internet Explorer This website uses technology that will work best in Internet Explorer. Open with Internet Explorer " I click on that link and IE opens up and I can watch Sky Go |

Im near certain Opera lets you have multi installs.
So just keep one installation for Silverlight. Microsoft claim their future is with HTML so I guess that means no Silverlight for Edge. If Microsoft ever helped Opera with regards to Silverlight, then that help will be long gone now. |
