Yes I think so. I don't know it for a fact but its the inference I have drawn. If it is the case then, Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton certainly predate her. Both were celebrated in the 60's by those who were compos mentis.

Twiggy was literally a world wide phenomenon. Her "look" was one that people all over the world wanted to copy or tried to. Just look at photo's of people from the 60's and it's very clear who their inspiration was for dress and makeup. Well IMO, anyway.

You know when you're asked 'who would you most like to look like'?

My answer has always been Twiggy - I think she was and still is stunning. She has aged so gracefully too.

My other option was always Lindsey Wagner - I don't know how well she's aged but I thought she was lovely too.

Sorry ......completely OT.

I had thought adwalton's comment was a play on the old adage that if you remember the 60's you weren't there. The inference being that anyone who was there was so high on LSD and the like, that the 60's passed in a sort of halcyon haze.”

I'm aware of the saying. Didn't see the joke either.

Twiggy was stunning.

I used to buy quite a bit of clothing similar to hers. Kings Road on a Saturday afternoon, shopping in Biba, you couldn't beat it.

IMO of course.

Edit. Not forgetting Mary Quant of course. Loved her too.

Jean Shrimpton certainly predates her. I was at college in 1962 with Chrissie Shrimpton, her sister and Jean had been modelling at the top level for quite a while and as she is probably 75 now she was almost certainly before Janice. Twiggy may have been from about 1963/4 but don't quote me.
