Surely people are not expecting perfection from a presenter on a live show . Tess and Claudia are doing a good job, except perving over one of the male pros is not very professional . At least there is no time wasting for some cringe making jokes like wiyh Bruce . Although I enjoyed Bruce messing up a very polished show .

Telling a pampered celeb that the 'audience loved it' after having been given a unanimous bad report by the judges undermines them. What the audience think is immaterial. The celebrity doesn't need to be soft soaped into positives, they know they haven't danced well, Tess trying to engineer positive vibes is a pointless charade and another reason why she's terrible. And it's hardly because she's female that this is being pointed out, Claudia does an awesome job and she'd do a much better job than Tess as the main host.

I wasn't comparing her with Zoe though. Between Tess and Claudia, Claudia is far more natural. Tess is a bit Stepford wife for me.

I do not mind if she's sugarcoating it for the celebs, it's almost a ritual now. It's not like Craig or anybody else changes their mind. What I did mind on Saturday was the way she treated Jay. "In case you missed it first one hundred times I said it, he's very nervous." Very patronising, too, imo.

Extremely. I really want Craig to pop back at her though after the millionth time she's undermined him. And the stupid looks his co-judges give him don't help matters either. He's the best judge there by a million miles and isn't in the job to make wealthy celebs feel better about their (lack of ) dancing abilities

I am comparing her to both Tess and Zoe and, for me, she doesn't match up to either. I don't find her natural at all, I find her awkward and irritating.

You cut the post you quoted, which implied Tess should be using Bruce's old lines. I responded to that by saying it looks like they have changed them. And quite right too IMO.

Script is at fault, not presenter IMO

I like Tess - it's Claudia I have to fast forward. I find her so false, playing a part, not her natural self. I wish Zoe would replace her. I know I'm in the minority but Claudia! But we all have our own opinions.

Thread's about Tess, not Claudia.

It _is_ about Tess when OP says she's fine and that's Claudia they do not like.

Shes just a bit bland for me.
Good looking lass, though.
Cant abide the hunchback dwarf side-kick though, with her ridiculous fringe and halloween make up.

What script? That's auto-cue, not script. And most of what she says is ad-libbed

Auto cue has words on it, hence a script. And I do not think there is that much genuine ad libbing, it's all rehearsed. Judges' comments as well.

Surely all links are scripted. She gets a chance to adlib when she talks to the contestants and judges at the end of the dance, but even parts of that are probably adlibbed.

I dont mind Tess too much ( got used to her ) but I don't think the words Ad Lib and Tess belong in the same sentence....

scripted it is - and, as has been said, even the judges comments are written for them

The judges comments aren't written for them.

You think a script writer knows more about dance than Craig Revell-Horwood?

And often he will refer specifically to an incident in the preceding 2 minutes (so not after having had several hours to think about it after the rehearsal).

Do you honestly think (Tess apart) that people aren't quick witted enough to think of something to say, without having it written for them by somebody else?

Sorry should have been clearer on that, I meant the joke comments from the judges... The technical stuff is of course down to them

I would say the gags are theirs as well.

These are clever, intelligent people, employed not just because they know how to judge a dance, but because they have the ability to think of something witty on the spot.

And- as often happens- if there isn't anything funny to be said they are wise enough just to stick to a critique of what they have just seen.

I mean- I can think of witty remarks after watching some of them. I don't need a script writer to put words in my mouth. The difficulty is I wouldn't have the dance knowledge, but it isn't that difficult to think of something funny,or sarcastic, or for Bruno to go over the top on his own. When he does that do you really think someone has to write it down for him?

Guess we will just have to agree to disagree on this one... I don't doubt they do have some original, off the cuff, comments, but there is also scripted stuff

The reason i cannot stand Tess Daly is because she really does think she is clever and witty with the comments she comes out with, but she is the total opposite. She has no personality, relies on the auto cue and sometimes i think she embarrasses the contestants, professionals and judges. Mind you i cannot stand her husband either, the most annoying presenter on tv, so a pair well matched. 😠

She had a great teacher to learn from Although Sir Brucie had his moments when adlibbing. He made me laugh a few times.

The telling thing about Tess is she presents no other show for the whole rest of the year (other than the annual one-off Children in Need). What does she do with her time for the rest of the year?!!!

she hunts down all the people who have been slagging her off mercilessly while the show was on, with a .22 rifle and a german telescopic sight.
It was nice knowing you though
