My parents are getting my mrs a Apple store gift card for her birthday but ive been looking on the Apple site and im abit confused because it says itunes gift cards and Apple store gift cards, it says itunes cards by post and Apple store gift cards via email, but what we want to do is get a card from WHSMITH or Morrisons etc, i seem to remember seeing itunes ones but do they sell the Apple store ones too?

Secondly it is going to be used to purchase a new iphone so it should be a Apple store gift card and NOT itunes right? i believe the itunes ones are for apps/music etc, and not hardware?

Cheers

I think the iTunes and App Store ones that you can get in all sorts of places (supermarkets, WH Smith etc) can only be used to buy music, apps etc. Some of them are marketed as iTunes gift cards and some as App Store cards, but in reality they can both be used interchangeably as they just add a credit to your Apple ID.

You can get gift cards for use in the Apple Store, I think, but they're probably only available in store and possibly online.

EDIT: It sounds like you've already seen this link:

http://www.apple.com/uk/shop/accessories/giftcards

The option on the left is for Apple Store gift cards and it sends by email. You can probably get physical ones in the Apple Store. As I say, the ones in other shops tend to be for iTunes/the App Store only, I think.

Personally I would just stick with cash. It isn't as personal but then you have complete freedom to buy the new product from what ever store you fancy.
