HD TV Set Up Question
We have two Panasonic HD TVs both linked to a sky plus box. One of them has a perfect picture in 16:9 but the other to get the right quality we have to put it in 4:3 mode. In the 16:9 aspect the picture on the second to loses clarity. Is there a simple fix to that?

How are the TV sets connected to the Sky box? At a guess only the first one has an HDMI connection? If the second one is connected using SCART or RF co-ax then it won't have an earthly of matching the picture quality of the first.

If you're watching HD, then obviously HDMI is the ONLY choice

Actually, if you're watching SD programming, then RGB SCART is every bit as good as HDMI

Also don't use really cheap and nasty leads. Especially if there is any distance involved. The very worst leads are those that do not use individually screened cables for the video and audio signals. If it uses single wires plus an overall screen there is plenty of potential for crosstalk between the wires affecting picture quality. I'm assuming the two TVs are not in the same room so presumably one or the other is hanging off the end of a fairly long lead. HDMI can work very well on relatively cheap cables up to 20 metres. But SCART can struggle to maintain quality over a few metres if you use poorly made cables. |
