BT wouldn't offer me any deals so I've moved to Sky, today was actually the changeover day. I am getting 12 months free broadband on a 12 month contract, so I'm only paying line rental and will be free to change when the contract expires. It's not fibre but the speed is fine for our family requirements. I'm only paying £6 per month for the basic TV package too. I phoned to cancel a few months ago because I was planning to switch to Now TV with an entertainment package at £6 per month. They offered me TV for the same price.

BT used to automatically renew you for another 12 month minimum term commitment if you didn't cancel. I'm not sure if that's still the case.

That is certainly not the case now! Taking up any of BT's offers is almost invariably tied into taking another 12 months contract (except, perhaps, Line Rental Saver - but that is non-refundable if you leave) but, when I decided to leave, it could be done immediately.

Yes, those automatically renewing contracts were outlawed a few years ago.
