Can someone please tell Tess to try and think of some other way of greeting the couples than pointing out the flippin obvious EVERY time it happens. Say what you like about Bruce but he could ad lib. Tess has only 3 different statements that she uses over and over again

"Look! Look! They're on their arses! You've got a sitting ovation!"

Well if she would just say this once in a while it would be something. She can't think on her feet.

I don't notice it. I have a Tess auto-filter.

Surely everyone knows by now that a random selection of the audience seats are fitted with an electric shock device?

Bruce started stating the flippin obvious.

Or, seeing as both hosts have done it, perhaps it is the producers who urge them to say it.

It isn't the way Tess/Bruce says/said it that bugs me, it's the complete overdone-ness of the standing ovations... It's only week one, you're going to peak too soon!

Imported American game-show sh1te via "Britains Got Issues" etc on ITV.
Don't need it.

I thought you shouldn't state the obvious in television .

Maybe the couples can't see the audience

As a two-time audience member I can confirm that we don't want to jump up after each dance. It spoils our view in many cases. But the floor managers make us.

I think that's a point it's sometimes easy to overlook. The audience is actually part of the show, and has to follow directions the same way as everyone else. Refuse, and you can be asked to leave.

Have to agree about Tess though. She seems to have just a few phrases and can't think of anything else. Unlike Claudia who comes out with the most ridiculous, but funny, stuff but you just know it is ad libbed. Really think Tess needs replacing, who is more up to the job.

i don't get why the audience give a standing ovations for mediocre dances - when tess shouts "they're on their feet" more often than not i think "they're easily pleased"

that explains a lot

It could be worse. On Dancing With the Stars, they make the audience stand up throughout the whole dance (which isn't quite as bad as it seems when you realise that their routines tend to last for a minute maximum)

I agree Sir Bruce is a multi talented living legend who can ad lib and carry an audience with him like no one else on live tv, the Tess " Oh I say " catchphrase irks me no end when I am about to have my pineapple chunks on a Saturday evening.

True fern. I've read a few posters who've been to the live shows stating this . Not alone do they make them stand up, but you also have to clap and cheer . I think it's a disgraceful way to treat grown adults just because it's a free show and totally
unnecessary .

Don't those idiotic producers realise they're only making the show much more annoying .
The audience are not fools and know a good dance from a mediocre one and will show their appreciation accordingly if left alone .

They must have insisted the audience over-react to Peter's dance at the end. I call foul!! But I need to learn to let it go or I'd wear myself out raging. I can't believe how fake these damned shows are

Really? Has that actually happened?

Dermot O'Leary to replace Tess? He's already a BBC employee with his Radio 2 show and a new game show about The Stig as well. He's also got many years' experience in Saturday night entertainment.

I suspected as much. The audience really are so noisy (bit like a boxing match crowd on steroids) and their reactions so bizarre I thought it had to be a Bully Floor Manager who was responsible for the shrieking after every basic turn and the stampede to stand up.

I salute your staying power. You are a true fan

Wild horses wouldn't drag me to a live show

I wish Tess would actually say this: "Look, they're on their feet...not because of your dancing because, quite frankly, it was shit...but because the floor manager MADE them stand up!!!"

Now that would be different, random and, above all, FUNNY!!!

Go on Tess, i dare ya..live a little and go off script once in a while!!!

Have you ever watched "Mock The Week"? They have a section when the comedians have to come up with lines that "You would never hear at a given event"

So, lines you would never hear from a reality show? "Look they're on their feet,..........because the floor manager MADE them stand up!!!"

Friends who are involved with the how have seen a couple of people ticked off for not "joining in" and threatened to be shown the door. Basically that's the "game" if you go and watch a free reality show. If you don't want to follow instructions then best stay home and watch on telly! Of course, if they charged for the tickets it would be different.

No one insists on an audience over reaction, Peter's performance and dynamism were responsible for that.
