Maybe it feels like it happens every year on week 1, but the performances didn't seem as great as I was expecting (based on the little we saw in First Steps).

I enjoyed some performances a lot, but no one really seemed to be very promising technically yet (usually there's at least one each year who already looks technically strong during their first dance!)

Maybe I'm just being very picky!

I really liked it. It was one of my favourites (up with Anita, Katie and Jay.)

She has a way to go still in perfecting the technique (although to be fair to her, Giovanni was really out-dancing her, which probably made her movement look less impressive than it could have done) and making sure she can maintain the level of energy throughout the dance.

I did say maybe I'm just being picky!

And as stated, I was mainly feeling underwhelmed because there was no one (to me) who looked like they had real technical promise, which there has been in many previous series.

I quite liked the fact that there was no obvious star dancer. There are a number of them with loads of potential. For me that'd be (in no particular order) Helen, Kellie, Katie, Anthony (injury permitting), Peter, Jay and Anita. The weaker ones are working hard and are not there to be a joke.

There seems to be a nice atmosphere amongst the celebs and not too many grating personalities (Peter and Jamelia irrationally irritate me). The only real negatives I can see are in the "stories" that they'll be going for. I'm already bored with the drooling over Gleb and dreading the inevitable attempts to hint at a showmance between Georgia and Giovanni, both of whom I find pretty dull.

Peter's performance was good, but I expected a bit more from him technically. He, Helen and Jay have all danced before, even if they haven't done Ballroom; I think they could have upped their game a bit. Helen was graceful, but she wasn't great technically.

I thought both shows were excellent and showed some hopefully promising performances in the coming weeks.

It's only the first week, give them a break.

Again. Week 1. What do you expect? I saw lots of potential in the coming weeks. They are on a learning trip.

No offence intended, but I think you may be being a bit picky Nina. it seemed pretty average for a first week although with no obvious ringers (I like that). I thought Friday was a bit lack lustre. They saved the personalities for Saturday. It had most of the usual elements: the entertaining dad dancer (Jeremy), the young potentially good dancer (Georgia), the Brendan's rag doll (Kirsty), the crowd/judge pleasing technically lite dance (Peter), and a few potentially graceful ballroom dancers (Helen, Jamelia) as well as the unusual element of OMG can't believe this might be Anton's year? (Katie),

We may just be Strictly'd out and harder to please.

What was I expecting? Series 12 - Frankie had great technique week 1, 11 - Natalie was technically great week 1, 10 - Kimberley was technically great week 1 and so on.

Jeez, I'm not saying they're all terrible, because obviously they're not! All I'm saying is that I was expecting at least one of them to have good technique after 3 weeks of training.

I also liked Anita, Jay surprised me with his nerves, Katie , also good dance.

but Giovanni's choreography was a really difficult routine, her movement was good, some of the kicks were in sync with Giovanni.

but definitely potential and i think she wants to learn and i would've given a 7.

also she was cheering for the other couples.

but this series shows some potentially good dancers, look the ones who did the Jive were good, Katie i didn't expect that. Georgia, with that difficult routine and Giovanni who is good dancer, he needs to hold back slightly, but i hope they get the waltz, which i think she'd be good at.

So you don't think any single one of them had any technicality whatsoever? If that's true then I look forward to seeing improvement. I guess thats primarily what the show is about anyway otherwise we'd be like 'oh that's week one done with let's turn over cos we've seen everything they've got to give'. I'm not being horrid but at least give em a chance

No, you're right, I am probably exaggerating. I am looking forward to what the upcoming weeks have in store

They all cheered for each other and do every single year, she did nothing the rest of them didn't also do.

Her routine was not that difficult, that is the truth, it was pretty easy.
Her jive action wasn't good and she had sloppy feet and legs. She also was messy when she went through his legs.

They all want to learn, that is why they have come on the show.

I think it was good, not the greatest but not too bad and a lot had potential too, so that is good.

I had a look this morning at some previous years dances, mainly Abbey and Natalie, my god they were good.
I also lived the year Ramps came out and did the chacha, mainly because of the surprise factor he provided, especially with his faces, who would have thought it?

I think everyone seemed to live up to my expectations this weekend. The launch show takes some of the whole surprise out of it now as you can see thee who can and cannot dance. I knew Carol and Jeremey would be not so great.
I remember the launch show a few years back, I wasn't watching it as I was watching the USO tennis, my Mother was, I came in the room and Chelsee turned around in the routine and I said she would most likely be a finalist.

I did expect a bit more from a couple of celebs (Kirsty and Jamelia) but overall I thought the standard was higher than usual.

No., not remotely underwhelmed.

I loved every single moment of both evenings. It was utterly fabulous and I can't wait until next week. Loving it!

Goodness but I thought there was far more potential shown this year than last year. Then even the people who turned out to be the very best dancers topped out at "competently dull" and the clear highlight was Alison Hammond not giving a flick and just swinging her giant bubbies round to Chaka Khan.

I agree - I expected to be thoroughly underwhelmed, but I was generally rather impressed. Even the naffest dances weren't as bad as some of the early offerings of the last few years (though Iwan's track race thing was pretty grim).

Anita and Jay were the stand-outs for me.

I thought it was one of the best opening shows ever- lots of energy without being forced and manic, ditto the celebrities, no celebs that were dialling it in (well...Iwan maybe, but he was enthusiastic on the night, if not in rehearsals) and no-one who makes my toes curl to the point of giving me cramp. Tess was... as ever... and Claudia amused me as much as she always does- which is a lot.

Liked it a lot more than I usually do for a week 1.

Same here, and Katie.
