I'm hoping by the time I'm bald and I get to 50 (I'm only 28 now!) that the cost of a hair transplant will be cheaper. Right now, if I'm correct they cost a fortune.

Bald area, presumably. That would be silly though, because the baldness would inevitably progress and leave you with isolated tufts, which isn't really a good look.

Although you're correct, it's funny because quite a lot of guys lose loads of hair within the space of a few years but then lose the rest very very gradually.
As for the OP, either way you're looking at probably two hair transplants. If you've got lots of disposal income then I wouldn't dissuade you because some of the ones I've seen in magazines, internet, celebrities etc do look a world away from the ones of the past. Then again, who knows what it looks like behind closed doors. You're looking at 10-15k overall though if you need another in the future and I'd advise to shop around (i.e get feedback from people on dedicated forums, check reviews) rather than pick the first you see!

10-15k sounds too much. I was hoping 2-3k at most.....
Don't bother with them and take the plunge with a shaved head.
Those ads for hair transplants on tv with minor league football players are so naff....and they all have the same extremely high hairline and massive forehead which is a dead giveaway of their transplant.

Even if it works, you're going to feel as conspicuous by the time you get into your 50s/60s with a thick head of hair as you do now - yet I'll absolutely guarantee that no one else is batting an eyelid at your appearance now if you're going bald. It's not remotely unusual.
Keep what hair you have short - you can easily do it yourself with clippers and save the cost and inconvenience of going to have it cut - and use the cash for something else.

It make a sense what do you say but I guess it's not too much about how other people see you, it's more about how you feel about yourself, confidence etc.. Another thing, this sound as an easy option- to cut your hair short, but it's not a solution for everyone, the short hair doesn't suit everyone.
If it's something that bothers you that much, it might be worth looking into this as an alternative - it's within your budget and I saw it done on a TV show and it looked fantastic after just one session...very natural.
(I'm trying to remember which show it was on - I'll post a link if I remember it!)

I've seen this already but the shape of my head is not, given the choice, suitable for the bold look. I think I'll go abroad, the hair transplants are much cheaper outside of the UK

It's essentially a lace front wig, a lot of women have been wearing them for years. Has to be applied properly though. I've seen some disasters.

I have been rubbing Vit E oil (from Naissance/Amazon.co.uk) on my eyebrows, only for a couple of weeks but there seems to be one or two new hair on each eyebrow. I suspect it will take patience but it is worth a try don't you think, much cheaper - I think it was aout £4.99/bottle and less painful. My husband has a bald patch and personally it doesn't bother me and I know he doesn't care a dxmn! Good luck.

It's done. A more painful experience than I've expected and it's too early to say how successfull it has been but I'm glad I did it. Apparently, transplanted hair falls off in the first month and then start to grow up gradually ( it may take 10 months to see a full results). If it works out ok, then it's well worth of money spent ( I went abroad and it's much cheaper)

I think this shows, more than ever, that we aren't all the same. Some guys DO care about going bald and don't want to shave their heads (a look I personally hate unless you have a handsome head like Mark Strong) or have it extremely short, again which isn't for everyone. So while others may not care about going bald, or their partners being bald, and advise accordingly - the OP clearly does.

Driftaway updates: hair is there, the red patches on the front, where the new hair has been planted are still visible, but not too much. The donor area on the back still hurts but considering how many injections went in there, it's bearable.
