Tut's tomb hadn't been looted when found so if this is Nefertiti's, the treasures and artefacts should be intact. I would love them to make such a find. But a cautionary note -
I saw a documentary where an annexex contained the embalmer's materials and detritus, not the longed for tombs.
But if it is her tomb, it would be wonderful if they could make a facial reconstrucion from her mummy - she is so beautiful.
In fact Tut's tomb had been robbed a couple of times in antiquity although obviously not to the extent of all the others.

'Carter estimated that around 60% of the jewelry in the Treasury had been looted, along with precious metals.'

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KV62

Which will make the discovery of Nefertiti's totally intact burial chamber (if it is actually there) all the more remarkable.

I nevrer knew that, KS. The robbers must have been disturbed or something if they didn't strip the tomb entirely.

Yes they must have been.

It's (rather creepy) archaeology article time.

Curse tablets, human sacrifice, a copper whip used by self-flagellating Monks, an ancient sacred bronze Jewish cult shovel and the mysterious Plain of Jars.

A 3,800 year old geometry tablet from a school lesson that shows the Babylonians understood "Pythagorean Theorem" 1300 years before Greek geometer Pythagoras was born and evidence from ancient ostraca that key parts of the Old Testament were compiled earlier than expected.

The bog people have always fascinated me - so well preseves, so childlike although they are adult. Sacrificial offerings, apparently.

Yes, there have been several excellent documentaries on them.

A remarkable natural phenomenon.

Could we finally be about to solve the mystery of the most astonishing monument ever to be constructed - the Great Pyramid?

In addition Khafre's at Giza, the Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid at Dahshur are all going to be examined with cutting edge non-invasive technology to search for hidden rooms, cavities and chambers.

The Scan Pyramids Mission.

I regard the Great Pyramid to be a totally unique structure and this awe-inspiring building may finally be about to give up it's long guarded secrets.

Surely an investigation like this would interest you?

If there is nothing more to be discovered it would be better to know once and for all - but just think if there is more to this mountain in stone than we currently know.

For example what if Khufu is still entombed in there after all?

Even the doors in the shafts have not been fully investigated yet - no other Pyramid has these features and none has the same complicated internal structure either.

http://www.guardians.net/hawass/arti...at_pyramid.htm

It is still a highly enigmatic edifice in my opinion.

Who knows?

I certainly think there may be undiscovered secret cavities in the Great Pyramid (although not in the others).

As to what they might contain possibly all of what you stated above plus the chance that Khufu may actually still be buried inside there somewhere.

After all absolutely no trace of a mummy or body has ever been found in the King's chamber or the rest of the massive monument for that matter.

Yes it does, but I'm not expecting anything dramatic.

So I take it that some (most?) of the tunnels were cut into the solid pyramid rather than built in during the pyramid construction.

I suppose it all depends on what can be called dramatic - remnants, fragments, grafitti, broken tools, treasure, a mummy - all in their own way reveal something of Egypt, possibly something we don't already know.
I think it is a human characteristic always to want to know what is around the next corner or behind a concealed door.

I was looking for news of Amphipolis and came across this account of the unearthing of a Bronze Age warrior at Pylos. Such beautiful things were found:

How wonderful!

Thought I may as well stick this in here since I posted it elsewhere on General just now.

The Triathlon in The Temple of Jupiter at Baalbek.

Each one of these monumental stones is 21 metres long, 4.4 metres high, 3 metres thick and is estimated to weigh around 800 tons or more.

One of the unused blocks there weighs about 1650 tons.

http://www.ancient-origins.net/news-...baalbek-002385

The Stone of the South is only 1242 tons though.

The mystery of the prehistoric Varna gold found in Bulgaria - over six thousand years old and some of the artifacts are simply exquisite. It is also the first solid evidence for the emergence of a social hierarchy.

The Varna treasure shoved into a shoe box! There was a fashion a couple of years ago for fabrics printed with beasts similar to the gold appliques. The more things change, the more they remain the same...

Yes it does not seem appropriate really.

I am surprised that this is the first I have heard of this fascinating discovery - surely a good documentary is warranted?
