There is no more despised and hated tyrant than Gaius Julius Caesar Germanicus or 'Caligula' (a name Gaius absolutely hated) - he is always portrayed as being crazier than a shithouse rat and totally evil.

The truth was far more complex.

But remember that history is almost always written by the winners and often by a man's enemies after he is dead. I love Mary Beard - so down to earth and she makes some top quality history documentaries.

Nice to see you back Keyser - for some reason people were saying you were on a permaban and that would have been really sad as your threads are always interesting!

When discussing British and European history we often refer to the iron age.

Was iron working known to earlier civilizations such as the early egyptions and then lost as a skill?

Wiki is actually pretty good on this.

The Old Kingdom in Egypt used meteoric iron, but I don't think there is any evidence for 'conventional' iron working technology.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Age

However they did build the bloody Great Pyramid so nothing would surprise me.

I think that the iron age is pretty much the same period all over the place

The ancient egyptians would have had iron but then so did the ancient britons at around the same time

The Copper Age

I was just reading the article below on the Copper Age crown and realised that in the UK we never refer to a Copper Age just a progression from Neolithic / Bronze / Iron Age.

How important was the Copper Age in the UK?
