Little Mix - Love Me Like You
What do people think of their new song?
I'm really liking it! I think it's got a timeless/classic sound to it and it's very catchy indeed! It doesn't seem to be doing as well as it should be; and I think that's down to lack of airplay. Black Magic is still the second most played song on the radio at the moment so it seems radio stations are choosing to play Black Magic over LMLY. I've heard Capital play LMLY a few times but they are definitely playing BM more often. It seems that the continued success of BM is overshadowing their new song, similar to what happened with Ella Henderson and her singles Ghost and Glow. I think that they should have released the song in time to sing it on the first results show of the X Factor. Thoughts?

I presume LM didn't think 'Black Magic' would have the legs it has shown.
I think 'Love Me Like You' is a better song but that's probably because it is a wonderful homage to the best of the 60s girl groups. |

The video comes out on Friday. In the meantime we have teasers from the video each day leading up to the release. Jade: https://twitter.com/LittleMix/status/648513331184009216 Jesy: https://twitter.com/LittleMix/status/648877829082353664 I really like it but then I like that era of music. The chorus is really strong and its been running thru my head for days on waking in the morning. The video has some continuity from Black Magic too, I like that concept of a 2 parter. I think once the video is out and people have another source other than Spotify to investigate the song, it will pick up dramatically. |

Let's hope it has longevity! Should do if promotion and airplane etc are on their side cause it's a great song
Hopefully they perform their next single after LMLY on the X Factor to give the album at least 3 successful singles! (Still angers me how Jessie J performed Bang Bang instead of Burnin' up) |

This is the thing with OA/OS, a lot of people would see a new Little Mix single enter the chart at #17 and think "LOLOL what a flop" because they're not used to seeing songs climb to their peak.
As Spotify becomes more dominant, this is how most new UK #1 singles will get there - building up gradually before finally hitting the top spot. Only the biggest artists in the world would have the ability to do a 1D/Justin by entering at #1 with an OA/OS release. I will admit, I thought the music video was going to be released last Friday to tie in with the single release. |

I've seen that thought expressed elsewhere too, that as streaming becomes the new way to consume music the OA/OS release makes more sense to accommodate the streaming build up. I figure there is a reason a major studio is doing this new strategy, and its not from altruism, if you get what I'm saying. A lot of times in the US the video is the week after the debut, and Sony seems to be following more of a US pattern this album campaign. Its probably staggered to help increase the streaming. Quote:

I didn't think anything could top Move by Little Mix for me...but Love Me Like You is brilliant.
I've pretty much had it on repeat in the car all day today and it just has that sound...and also words changed where you know why they were going to call it 'F*** Me Like You' |

Some would say homage, others would say totally derivative. It's not a bad song as such, like a lot of stuff in the charts right now, it's just kind off there. When you look at the writers of the songs it's not surprising - it's the normal 'hitmakers' who have credits on all chart fodder acts One Direction, Jessie J, Olly Murs, The Vanps, Emeli Sande etc... Is it any wonder the charts are so boring when it's the same few people writing most of the material in it. Now I'm not against artists using songwriters - but I think it's better when an artist and writer stay together to create a sound (John/Taupin, Meatloaf/Steinbeck, Williams/Chambers) rather than just the pick and mix style we have at the minute.
This is my idea of a homage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hi5A9OCAyIk There have always been hit makers and they have always been hit and miss. There is a homogeneity about modern pop singles, I wouldn't just lay the blame at the door of writers though. Modern instrumentation and production is very samey. Technology is also responsible for the continual pillaging of the music of the past through sampling. I also like the sound of the Meatloaf/Steinbeck pairing, more likely to come up with some trashy novel than a great album, I feel.

Its strange for me to see panic when everyone was thrilled at Black Magic being #50 on iTunes during preorder after weeks of full airplay and the video out. I mean the only difference is people bought the song but didnt receive it.
Incidentally, one of the Billboard editors in the US said in his upcoming Must Hear podcast that he "praised LM for 15 minutes". He exclaimed earlier that he thought LMLY was really good, so when his podcast comes out I'll link it. Currently there isnt a plan for LMLY to be a US single but who knows? |

Songs seem to take a few weeks to really take off on Spotify.
Naughty Boy's single with Beyonce was released nearly two weeks ago, and is only now starting to climb up the daily Spotify chart. Ellie Goulding's track has had a much faster climb in comparison. Once the video is released, it'll be interesting to see how much impact that has on LMLY. Are Capital FM playing the song at all? If Radio 1 get on board then the added exposure from airplay could help Little Mix climb to their peak. |

Capital not only debuted the song but have been playing it a lot. Its on their playlist. R1 seems to be slow to get onboard with OA/OS with other songs.
LM have been filming a lot of interviews last week and this week, which I think will also be coming out. They won't be here though for some of October. Their Australian Facebook said they would have "an important announcement" tomorrow which we all think is their promo trip there this month. That's why it seems their team is content for this to be a slow burner. The girls confirmed they would be performing on XF and were already in rehearsal last week. So there is still big promo to come. This is reminding me a little of how Salute the single came out. |

LMLY could easily have a similar chart run (maybe not go to #1 but top 3 is possible) once airplay picks up, video is played 24/7 on the music channels, people start streaming the song more because they're now more familiar with the song, promo to help boost songs chart performance, etc... |

To be frank, coming from the US, I don't see much of a difference between the OA/OS rollout and your former preorder one, except that people didn't get to have their purchase immediately. Even with the old system songs built up airplay, tv views, and sales. Its just that there was kind of a little cheat going on in that all those weeks were allowed to be accumulated for the "official" week.

I guessed the story from the trailers. The video belongs to the same universe as 'Black Magic'. The chorus of this song is incredible but I don't think it can perform as well as BM in the charts. Not that it matters to me.
