Judges mis-scoring
strictlylicious

I love Strictly and any negative thread is always a bit tongue in cheek and fondly posted but.....I couldn't believe at this early stage some of the fantasy judges marking e.g. there is no way Georgia's jive could even tie the shoe laces of Katie's jive on Saturday night. Katie's far better show performance, much better kicks and action and superior energy yet ends up 1 point lower

Just back on the forum apologies if similar thread has been posted up already.

I thought they were of about the same standard to be honest.

I also thought Katie deserved 27, the same as Georgia.

so Katie was robbed 1 point

Performance-wise they were on par but Giovanni stuffed their jive with a hell of a lot more content - especially for Week 1. As Georgia did not make a bad fist of it, she deserved a higher score IMO. Katie, though great, had the "I didn't expect that" factor in her corner over Georgia.

A tie would probably have balanced things out.

I thought the scoring was fair. Katie was brilliant, and one of my face performances of the week, but it didn't get a little bit messy as it went on. Georgia's had a lot of content and although the energy levels dipped towards the end, the timing was excellent and there was cute storytelling.

Even as a die-hard Katie fan, I can't quite say that there was an enormous gulf between the two, but I'll agree that I thought Katie's basic Jive was better than Georgia's, even while Georgia's was full of more interesting tricks.

I actually thought they were both a tiny bit undermarked, I'd've had Georgia at 28, and Katie at 28/29.

Talking of undermarking, though - Anita? 27? 30 would've been a fair reward for the energy and difficulty of choreography, as well as the sharpness, but they couldn't give her that because then she'd have the same score for the same dance as the Sainted Peter of Andre (who I'd score at about 26).

Indeed Anita undermarked.
Interesting to hear all of your viewpoints For me the kick, lift and action of Katie's jive was well ahead of Georgia's but really interesting to see that most of you think it was very close.
Perhaps deep down is an involuntary bias on my behalf to the lovely lady that is Katie lol

Oh believe me, you'd have to search far and wide to find a more die-hard (/mental) fan of Katie's than me. I think if you gave Katie and Georgia the same choreography Katie'd edge it a bit more, but Georgia's (well, Giovanni's) choreography seemed more entertaining, which is, after all, part of the point.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Ballroom wasn't quite such a close race, though (now watch Georgia get 36 and Katie get 16).

So you thought it was worth 34 without the mistake at the end (assuming that all the judges would deduct a mark for the mishap)?

I don't really think the mistake cost her 4 points though, as she covered it well and styled it out, which is often enough to get some grace from the judges (well, not Craig) - I think it cost her 1 (from Craig), so it'd be a 31 without the error (I could see 6, 8, 8, 8 for it being fair). It's exactly the sort of routine I can see being a Judges' Pick in the final though (a la Ms. Flack), and then I wouldn't rule out a 40 if it was tidied up (some of the stuff at the top of the stairs with the Mac was a bit rough).
