Absolutely. don't get it either. Surely it can't be that hard to find a contemporary tune in 3/4 can it?

As for salsa I don't get that at all. There are literally thousands of salsa tracks to choose from. There are hundreds that are cross overs of English songs that will be recognisable to a UK audience. As for finding a foodie connection...'Hello' Its salsa! Any track with salsa in the title ticks the foodie gag box.

please check out the Michael Bolton version of Georgia on my mind, it's more suitable as a waltz.

At least most of them are songs you have heard of.

It's not the singer that is the issue Nicky, its the time signature. In the case of this dance it is even more bizarre to choose a 4/4 track since the very word Waltz has lent its name to the time signature.

i know, don't worry too much

in Dancing with the stars USA, they use all sorts of songs, they even used an Afrojack song for a foxtrot, the song Ten feet Tall.

just fingers crossed, for Georgia May.

maybe a romantic Elegant Waltz, and they change the song a little bit.

Uptown Girl reminds me of Anita Dobson with Robin Windsor who also danced to this song

There is a tango version of telephone a bit like the version of sweet dreams sophie and brendan danced their AT to. Not my favourite tango song tbh and i almost feel like the original version is more punchy for tango - but they may be using this version, you never know.

Nicky, there's no issue from me with songs being used more creatively but the time signature has to fit or it is impossible to dance the steps to it. Waltz steps are designed to be danced on the count of "one two three" - with three steps corresponding to the three beats. If you have four beats to dance to, but only three steps to dance then what are you meant to do on beat four? This is why only certain songs can be waltzes.

Nb: dance experts, i know many waltz steps have more or less physical steps than three per bar but thought this was the simplest way of explaining it.

Edit: sorry nicky i see now that you say you know! I'll leave tgis up though just in case anyone else finds it useful

well thanks for explaining Ellie, and also no issue or problem for me.

i don't care about certain music, as long as the dancing is good, so fingers crossed for them.

only for the Argentine Tango i want traditional music. but for the rest, it doesn't matter for me.

Having just watched Alesha and Mathew's quickstep again, I don't think it will present too many problems for Peter. Although, as he is the only one doing the quickstep, he will inevitably be compared solely to their performance., rather than his peers.

I do not mind either version of Georgia On My Mind and it is the Salsa songs I have never heard of before. I may be having to record a lot of this series as I have a job interview for an initially Christmas Temp job at the Merry Hill centre in Dudley, so people may need to keep the news thread up to date for me as the centre is open 24 hours towards Christmas.

well i hope you enjoy the next show Sarah.

i will too, except Iwan dancing to Sexy and i know it, that will feel awkward to me, i already know. and Daniel doing a charleston without personality.

I am not looking forward to Iwan but cannot wait to watch Daniel dancing the Charlston. Forgot to see that my interview for a Christmas job is at Argos not that its relevant just means I may not be able to vote if I get the job.

i am also not looking forward to Iwan, hope he must leave this weekend, he really doesn't have my sympathy.

and Daniel with the Charleston, should be a fun dance, if he can get the character right.

and i'm looking forward to Georgia's Waltz.

Ainsley should be funny Salsa should be right up his street one way or another especially given the song choice.

First, " Dear Future Husband " and now " Georgia on my mind " ....I see what TPTB are trying to do here....they should just give it up with these intentional songs/puns.....she has a boyfriend....why must they find a couple to try to create a showmance storyline every year ?
I like Team GG just fine; they work well together....forcing that storyline might put some of the GP off.

i see what you mean, but those are 2 nice songs.

and Georgia already said Sean is the one she loves.

but i agree, the producers are pathetic trying to create a showmance.

and Georgia on my mind is a good song.

The tango version of telephone is by an accordionist called martynas and is actually really good! I think I've danced to a soundalike version - the real version is great! A touch fast but not a huge issue for a strictly tango imo.

He also does a great mix up version of habenera and la cumparsita which would be a great for strictly imo.

That's the one! I suggested it a while ago on 2015 song suggestions. It's good isn't it?

That Martynas version is amazing I love it, and very tango.

I don't care what song they do as long as they tango it up, like this version of telephone or Voulez Vous last week.

And totally agree about the waltz. The singers need to sing it to a 3/4 rather than try and dance a waltz to a 4/4. It loses all feeling of a waltz without the musical timing.

It's really easy to turn a song into a 3/4 or 6/8 for a Viennese Waltz. Someone like you by Adele is easy, if you lengthen some notes and shorten others without it sounding totally different. Nowhere man by the Beatles off the top of my head is another.

I quite enjoy interesting musical arrangements, I far prefer that to shoehorning a dance into a popsong.

I'm guessing Peter's QS would be to the Mark Ronson/Amy Winehouse version rather than the original by The Zutons? The original version is nowhere near quick enough for a QS................

LOVE the song for Jeremy & Karen's AS though! I may be chucking a few votes their way for that alone
